Try them both out. I bought my Marcus Miller after trying the Geddy Lee and I preferred the MM over the Geddy. The active pickups weren't as much a deciding factor as the quality was. The Geddy Lee I played wasn't as well built as the MM.
Now, the American standard is really cool. It plays well, looks great (I have a weak spot for maple necks so I gravitate towards them) and has great features.
Pick the one that really suits you and that you wouldn't want to sell unless you had to.
Good luck!

I use both round wound and flat wound. Flat wound gives more finger noise. If you use your fingers it can sound almost like Steve Harris. (Iron Maiden) Round wound strings are ruffer on your finger but seem to give more tone.

Don't you mean roundwounds? For me, I love flatwounds because of almost no finger noise. Roundwounds, and my sometimes poor technique, are horrible with finger noise. I mainly use rounds with some type of effect(distortion/fuzz) to mask my finger noise. I never use any effect with flats except maybe some slight chorus. Everyone's different though.

And I am probably gonna get an American Standard J-bass(black and maple) in the next 2-3 months. I have big hands and would probably have a harder time with the GL.

If you've got big hands the narrower Jazz neck can feel cramped; you may want to try a P-Bass instead.

I stuck with DR Strings. If you like a more vintage rock tone try out the dr sunbeams or the nickel LoRiders.

For a more modern sound like MM try the HiBeams on Jazz Bass and the steel LoRiders on Precision Basses.

For a real vintage motown-sound try out LaBella deep talkin Bass flatwounds
