right now i currently use fender super something like the Fender 7250 super bass light strings just wondering if there was anything better out there to try and improve my sound What kind of strings will deliver a nice warm and rich sound when trying to play something softer and gooc punch while slapping and using a pick but also can stay really thick and warm? I play rock funk alternative and need an all around really good string for those genres of music THANKS =] :D

also what company and all the stuff as in name about the strings :D

I play mostly classic and 90's alternative rock. I have a set of the Fender 7250M's(45-105) on my Hwy One P-bass. Once I broke them in, they sound really good for what I need them for, to my ears at least. And the are easy on my fingers. Most of the time (95%) when I play that bass, I am using some type of effect so I can't really say how well they sound straight up. On my other P-bass, I use flats which are D'Addario Chromes. Rarely will I use any effect with the flats. They sound fantastic using finger or pick, and give me a nice warm mellow tone that will get thumpy and deep when I want them to. I don't slap at all. The Fender's, Ernie Ball Slinkys, and D'Addario nickelwounds are possibly some of the most poular and cheapest rounds you can buy. I used to use the Slinkys, and they sounded good, but they tore up my fingers. Buy some of the sets from EB and D'Addario and experiment. Tone is subjective, and figuring out yours can be frustrating. I feel like I just rambled there so I hope that you can get something from that.

To add to this question, what is the difference between flat wound strings and round wound? How do they varry with the tone?

ROUNDWOUNDS HAVE A BRIGHTER AND CRISPIER TONE. FLATWOUNDS HAVE A DEEPER, DARKER TONE NOT AS BELL-LIKE AS ROUNDS.
THEIR SOUND IS MORE ATTUNED TO VINTAGE STYLES, LIKE SOUL AND ROCK FROM THE '60's & EARLY '70's.
I USE ROTOSOUND STRINGS, STEVE HARRIS SH77's ON MY MM JAZZ BASS. YES, YOU CAN SLAP WITH THEM AND ALTOUGH YOU LOSE SOME CLARITY YOU GAIN, IN MY VIEW, IN DEPTH.
HOPE MY HUMBLE OPINION HELPS YOU OUT MAN.

I've been using either Fender or Rotosound flatwounds for my Fender basses.

Taken from the Fender Forum Code of Conduct - READ BEFORE POSTING

"Avoid excessive shouting (use of all-caps) or flooding (continuous posting of repetitive text). "

And how much time can typing in all caps possibly save, huh?

Well, no matter how much it saves, if it is against the rules I will stop it. Thanks for the wake-up call (I mean it and am not being ironic at all).
What Jazz Bass do you play?

No problem. I have a Warwick Rockbass that I got from GC for $100 on their labor day sale. That has jazz pick-ups in it, but I don't like it cause it's not balanced. The body is really small and the neck is like 6 feet long. Wicked bad neck-dive. Basically when I fret the Rockbass on the 2nd fret, it feels like I would be on the headstock near the A-string tuning post of one of my Fender P's. I mainly use it to drag around the house to dabble on. Thinking about either a Geddy Lee or American Standard.
