Any Suggestions?

I ordered the 2 pack for the MIA bass but I get a feeling those may not work.

I think you should have a nut replaced professionally. AND with bone- not plastic or whatever the material is they use now-- cyclovac I think is what they call it.. The neck widths for Mex and USA should be the same-- you hope.

The nut is very important as to set up etc-- the way you glue one in --shape-- all kinds of stuff to think about when it comes to the nut. Removal is real important.

Buying a nut in a package and then putting it on is okay- but it's kind of like taking your bass to the BP ProCare shop and letting Larry Jr. do it..... Having a pro guitar repair guy put a bone nut on your bass is like going to the NASCAR garage in Charlotte and having Dale Jr. do it. Who would you choose Larry Jr. or DALE JR?? That's what I thought.

It's all good--

Okay, I guess I should've mentioned that I work at Sam Ash and I know I need a setup on my bass before I can do anything nor do I plan to set it up myself since I don't know anything about the instrument.

And I know Bone nuts and brass nuts give different sounds and I'm sure they're better.

I simply want to know what nuts would work as a replacement to the original one. I can't get a set up done on my bass without a nut. Unfortunately the repair guy at my store didn't have any OEM nuts to replace it at all so I had to order them.

Once I can actually play the instrument, I"ll worry about a better nut, adding better pickups, etc...

Well I don't know which nuts are the good ones when buying a nut like your at K Mart or something. I'm an older type geezer bass player and learnt to take the bass to a repair guy and have a nut installed and set up right. I even did it myself once but it takes 12 tries when you've never done did it before. So I let them do it. Sorry I can't help .

I agree with Stroker. If it were me, I'd take it to a good tech and get a bone nut. A bone nut will give you a classic sound and in the long run it will be the best choice . Cost wise it won't be too big a deal and whether you learn to play or not, it will make the bass so much better.

Good luck.

Okay, well my tech at Sam Ash doesn't have any nuts in stock nor in the repair shop so once I get some in, I'll tell him to just use a bone nut and go from there. I can't get a setup without a nut...As I previously mentioned.

A bone nut blank will be just that- blank. It will be of general size , wider and taller, etc, than you need most likely. Also it prob won't have slots filed into it. So you're screwed on that. This whole nut thing is making you frustrated now right? HA!!!!

You opened up the barn door when you decided to play bass!!

It costs $100 average for a tech to build a bone nut for all of the ones I've had done.

I hope the guys there at the store guide you in the right direction. They will I'm sure. Just don't glue in a nut with Monkey Grip glue. Plus it's easy to mess up a fretboard taking a nut off a bass ( been there done that).

PS- always remember : a Trombone has less parts to break than a bass. :D :D :D :D

This isn't frustrating me. I originally just wanted to make sure i didn't waste $12 bucks on my order to Fender on the MIA nuts. Plus, I might not be spending anything on the setup.

I am frustrated that I got a bass and my intention was to try and get some basics down so that when I take some lessons with one of Buddy Rich's former bass players, I don't look like a complete idiot lol. There's no quick fix for that though and its not a problem to be handled in a forum. Plus, all of that is my own fault for buying the thing at a pawn shop in the first place.

Btw, I got this thing for $150 so that was hard to pass up lol.
