Can anybody tell me something about this bass? It has a vintage nitro finish from what I can tell with a serial number of N9406153

1999 but I don't know about clay dot markers on a 99 unless it's a custom shop or some limited run.

post some good pics. Are you sure someone didn't just take a marker and color them in? That wouldn't be out of the question. Also how or why do you know it's vintage laquer? It could have been refinned and checked-- again not out of the question.

I don't see anything odd at all about that bass. It looks like a regular Sunburst finish , white position marker type bass they've made for years.

Not Custom Shop. Standard production. Standard dots. Yellowed a bit maybe but it is 13 yrs old. Maybe have gotten some sun.

Okay then. But it still looks like a regular old Fender bass to me. You could tell if the dots are really clay floor tile dots for sure ( which is what the original clay dots were) by using a solvent and a Q tip. The solvent I'm thinking of would probably melt the Q tip though. Or if the clay dots are a repro representation of the old tannish orange clay dots- they are probably plastic ( or whatever) like the ones they use now only made to match the color of the old ones. But I tend to agree with what Brother Dave says. You know,,,,,, I would probably follow Bro Dave into an erupting Volcano..... but only with a blindfold on. Either way I think it is a cool bass. I have always liked the P/J pickup configuration but have never had a P with that set up.

Looks like a Hot-Rodded American P-Bass from the late 1990s-early 2000s.

I like my mim P Special Deluxe with the P/J pickups. :D I do prefer the P body style. What originally piqued my interest was its description of lighter P body but narrower J neck. I like the options it gives me, right at my fingertips.

I confess, though, that I'm lusting after the American Deluxe ... similar features to mine except you can turn off the active. And I want it in the 3-color Sunburst. :D
