Hi guys, Is there anybody who can help me to find out what happened there. My jazz bass is a standart one made in US in 2008. There´s a hole which was left on the body and I´m pretty curious about it. I´ve got a friend who has a 70´s jazz bass and he has the option to play with it without the pickguard. With my jazz bass is impossible, cause there´s this hole that I mentioned and the pickup is exposed as you can see on the pic.

p.s. I tried to attach a pic but I found out that I don´t know how to do it. I have posted this pic on the facebook. Well waiting for a reply ... thanks

The hole is put there during the manufacturing process. It is a guide uded to cut the body shape. All the MIM's have them.

What do you mean? It doesn´t matter if it´s made in mexico or us, all jazz bass has this hole that I mentioned?
I don´t think so, maybe this hole was left during a certain period of time

I think maybe it was left somewhere around the time of pre- historic Man --like 25,000 years ago. :D

No really- I've noticed it so many times that I quit noticing it. I could go pull all my pick guards and figure it out but I'm sure Brother Dave could answer the question with remarkable knowledge that he has. Plus it would be allot faster than me pulling pick guards. I have too many. It's a mfg CNC machine mount I believe.

I think they started doing that back in the 80's. Not shure. I know my 72 and 74 don't be havin' it.

Not correct, not all MIM have them. The Classic 60's Jazz does not, Road Worn Jazz and there are some others.

I should have qualified that by saying Standards.

I keep my stash there. 8)

But on a serious note....I actually have a hand written note with my name, address, phone number, model, and serial number folded up in the hole. Just in case something ever was to happen.
