Not sure how I missed this the first time 'round but this is niiiiiice. Very nice.

Already posted a pic of my VB but here's my new AD.

Image

Recently been comparing it with my VB and I have to say, I think the AD may soon become my #1. It's a little bit "honkier" than the VB but there are other nuances of tonal beauty I just don't get with the VB. For now I've got the AD tuned to Eb for those songs we do that require a dropped state of tune but it's entirely possible I may reverse those roles. I'm going to try a set of new strings on the VB just to be sure it's not just the strings before I make that decision.

Nice idea to put an American Deluxe pickguard on the 2-octave Jazz Bass.

The Squier Vintage Modified Jazz uses a fretless Fender neck.

Here's a pic of my Squier Vintage Modified Jazz Bass V that I purchased last December.
With excellent advice from brotherdave guiding me and help from a few friends I performed my first self mod on this bass by changing out all the electronics (pups, caps, capacitor, jack and all the wiring). I also copper shielded all the cavities plus the entire back of the pg. Because the caps I used had larger stems it required that I enlarge the holes in the control plate and install larger control knobs. The bar string tree had a screw installed at an angle so I replaced it with 2 round ones. I filled in the holes with light wood putty, which you can barely see in the 3rd pic below. I also added Schaller strap locks.
I'm satisfied with the results. I now have a fuller, deeper sound and considering the money I have in this bass, $450 including the mods, it's a real bargin.
Oh. and chromeface.....this Squire Vintage Modified Jazz came with a fretted neck!

BMW-KTM since you like my FCS Jazz and Mr. Nylon since you admire a nice looking neck.....check this one out on my FCS Jazz.

Neck: "AA" Flame Maple, Modern C Shape, (Polished Satin Urethane Finish)
Neck Binding: Black
Fingerboard: Maple, 9-1/2" Radius
Position Inlays: Black pearl
No. of Frets: 21 Medium Jumbo
Scale Length: 34"
Width at Nut: 1-7/8"

Unfortunately, after less than a year of owning the bass I discovered several small delaminating places on the neck binding. Top, bottom and up and down the neck. At first Custom Care refused to repair the bass stating they didn't know for sure what caused the delamination, but they were sure it wasn't because of material or workmanship.
I made a post answering a question about Custom Care in the Let's Talk Custom Shop section of this forum about my experience; http://forums.fender.com/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=86903.
Fortunately for me Rob Schwarz-Fender read my post, checked into the history on my bass and got the ball rolling to get the neck repaired under warranty. It's currently at the custom shop getting repaired.

I'm talking about jlarocho's fretless Squire.

Nice Squier Vintage Modified Jazz 5, Grho50 ...... I think Squier has upped the quality of their basses in recent years,..... they've got some nice models on the market...

Thanks James Coderre.
I really like this Squier. I am a little spoiled with my other basses, but there isn't a thing wrong with this one. There really wasn't anything wrong with the original electronics.....like I said, I'm just a little spoiled,
The playability of the bass is really good. The neck is straight, low action, and I love the feel of the satin finish on the neck. Smooth and fast. I have gigged with it a few times with no problems.
JMHO.....for the money.....one of the best basses Fender produces.

I was at the Long & McQuade music store in my area on Thursday night ... (I usually go to the one in downtown Vancouver because the bass dept is a virtual candy store of gear but there was Horrible Bridge traffic so I stayed local) :) anyway I was at the store in my area to purchase the Cruz Tools Bass tech tool kit ( a must for the gigging bass player) & I thought hey while I'm here why not see if any new Fenders came in .....so I go to the bass area & see what I thought were Fender basses at first glance but were in fact Squiers..... I picked up a couple to try out & take for a spin & I have to say I was impressed .....tbey're a lot of bang for the buck. I could also see why the store in my area goes heavy on the Squier, Epiphone, Yamaha & Ibanez basses,.....I live in the Suberbs & I think they gear their stock to the younger players & the novice players.. nothing wrong with that & as I said I was pleasantly suprised with the Squiers.

One of my main basses is my Squire VM Jazz Bass Fretless. I love the neck and the Duncan Designed PUPs sound sweet. I added an Audere JZ3 preamp and it really sings! I must say that the 5 out of 5 star review this bass got in Bass Player Magazine a few years back is well deserved.

I like my Squier VM Jazz a lot too. I played six before I bought one. had to have one, They just played so well.

I like the weight and the lopsided way they hold. I've never had another bass that reminded me of my '68 Jazz like this one does. not the sound of course, just the way it feels.

I think the fact that Fender has added the Squire line to their site instead of hosting them on a separate url says a lot about their confidence concerning the Squire's quality. I think they have grown in leaps and bounds these past few years. Used to be that most folks would place very little merit to their viability in the guitar and bass world. I see more and more Squires being played out than ever before. Never mind the economic value...the new family of Squires are a great line of instruments.
