Hey brothas, I just picked up a used American Deluxe Jass 2007, and I use a Monster Bass cable regular 1/4 in plug and I get no sound, I did plug my other bass in and its fine. Any help would be great. Im not sure but they dont require a shorter 1/4 inch do they??

Thanks

I've played several Fender Americans at music stores and every single one has behaved just fine with a 1/4 cable. Take out the pickguard and check under it and make sure that none of the wires are cut. Just one loose wire on that big chain of potentionmeters, and the whole signal is lost.

Sounds like a loose wire or a bad input jack.

Well, I just found I had to the Dynamic select knob (second one down from the volume) turned all the way to the Bridge and you get no sound, I turned it up Middle more to Neck and I get sound, not sure why,,,, there may be something wrong with the bridge pick up?

That is probably an issue with the bridge pickup if on its own it makes no sound. It's rather unusual that a passive "fails" so it's probably a wiring issue. Again, I would check under the pickguard. And the last person who replied has a good point because a common cheapo part on all guitars is the input jack. Wait... American Deluxe? I believe those have active pickups... this just got complicated. If there is an active/passive switch on it (deluxe might have those) switch it on and off and experiment... but at this point if it's not a standard good ol' Jazz Bass and it's a higher model you should take it into a music shop and see if they can diagnose the issue.

2005 Deluxes don't have the passive/active switch but they do have a battery compartment in the back. Check the battery and its connections.

i have a 1999 american deluxe i bought used from g.c. and it quit working. i took it in to a shop. they replaced the pick up pan knob and discovered a crack in the pre-amp mother board. they put a piece of foam under it and it worked for a year. it's broke again and fender no longer makes that style anymore, the ones they make now are to big for my year.
