Hi All! New to the forum!
I believe I might have been one the first to buy one of the 150 FSR Wine Red Jazz Basses as soon as Sweetwater got them in stock...I have recently seen alot of them on the net with the back of the headstock signed and numbered... Mine is not for some reason... Any thoughts!!!! A little disturbing to me...
Thanks!!
Steve

You bought it from Sweetwater? Call and ask your sales consultant.

If you didn't buy it from Sweetwater then it wouldn't be a part of the Sweetwater run. It could be from another run in that same finish.

I did buy it from Sweetwater...I thought there were only one run of these basses in 2012 of 150 pieces worldwide... Was there another run??

This is from Leitz Music and I have read the same kind of ad on other sites stating the limited to 150.. Mine does say limited addition on the back neck plate.. Still confused..

Factory Special Run

Limited to 150
Hand Stained Wine Red - Rosewood Fretboard

The American Standard Hand-Stained Ash Jazz Bass is a beautifully distinctive new take on our most popular bass guitar. With all the growl and tonal versatility the instrument is known for, this special model gives our American Standard Jazz Bass an ash body with a gorgeous hand-rubbed stain beneath a satin-lacquer finish.

If you bought it from Sweetwater then you should ask your personal sales consultant there about the missing signature and number. You have one assigned, just call them up and ask who it is if you don't remember and they'll look up your account rep for you.

As for there being other special runs of the same FSR instrument, any major dealer could order their own run as small as 150 with the exact same specs except one detail would be slightly different such as the pickguard color or pickup type. Also Sweetwater could order another run exactly like their first one if it was a brisk seller and they wanted to do it again.

The trouble with FSR's if you are a dealer is there is a certain risk in ordering one. If the axe doesn't sell well you get stuck blowing out the inventory at a reduced price or even a loss just to get rid of them. If it does sell well they can order another run and another and another to meet demand which is exactly what I think Guitar Center and Musicians Friend do with their FSR models as they never mention how large the runs are.

Fender doesn't tell dealers that they can't ever have but 150 of them and will keep making them as long as the dealer keeps ordering them. 150 is the minimum run (or was at one time anyway), however there is no maximum limit nor is there any limit to how often the special model can be re-ordered so long as you order at least 150 on each run.

This bass looks like it was part of the special hand stained American Standard Jazz & P-Basses that were introduced in Febuary (on Fenders website) & were yanked a couple of weeks after the new 2012 American Standards were anncounced in April (I haven't seen this bass on Fenders website for about 2 weeks) the body colors available were a red wine stain & a Mahogany stain. I was wondering why the hand stained American Standards didn't get the same upgrade pickup upgrade that the rest of the American Standard 4 string jazz basses got (60's customshop pickups) :)

So here is the bottom line from my Rep at Sweetwater...

"Jeff Allen (VP Manufacturing Operations of Fender) signed and numbered
the first 50 of the 150 hand stained models. I'm not sure why he only
did the first 50."

I believe he got that from Fender!!!

I probably got #51!!! lol

Go Figure...Still Love The Bass....

They weren't "yanked", they sold out. I didn't jump at these and I missed the chance to get a mahogany Jazz, but the distributor had two of the red wine ones left, so I got one of those. I like the rosewood fretboard better anyway. #15, it's gorgeous.
