At first, based on the new P basses, I was fairly impressed with the newly standard CS 60s pickups. I purchased a beautiful new '12 Jade Pearl Jazz bass, and it was honestly the worst sounding J bass I've ever heard. Mex or otherwise. Even the guys in the shop agreed with me when I took that clunker back to the store. I'm thinking there HAD to have been something wrong with it. At any rate, I think I've found my "keeper"...a Candy Cola 2011 J bass. Brand new "old stock" '11 model. Sounds fan-freakin'-tastic, and plays like a dream. Picture to come. I dunno, this may be kind of a case of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." I recently bought (and subsequently sold 'cuz I'm more of a J person) a 2011 Precision which sounded just great. The '08 to '11 AM Std. basses are excellent instruments. I just have to wonder in the big picture how much of an "improvement" was made.

I think you just got a clunker. My 2012 Am. St.d Jazz is an excellent bass. Lots of different tones, great feel. Having said that I bought a 2011 Telecaster, glad I got one before they started body cutting them witth the 2012s.

No, man, I'm really happy with my 2012. Sometimes, you just get a lemon. Or I just got lucky.

Yeah, that one I got hold of was surely not the norm on these. Glad u are happy with your '12. I gotta agree on those new Teles with the cut out. They just look weird to me.

I've been playing heck out of the JB. It's got such a large range of sounds, and I feel it with this bass. I"ve got to do a good setup on it, which I'll get to today. I love blending the pus and getting even more sounds out of it.

Wow that JB is beautiful. I prefer the maple board, but lefties are only offered the rosewood. i also would like to have had the choice of that white. I'm happy enough with the sunburst though and might have chosen it in any case.

Took my Am. Std. out for a bit of jamming this weekend. It was smooth, but it could also thump, growl, and roar. Just love the neck.

+1 ZoomBa!

Did you give your Rumble 350 a good hard work out too?

No, I didn't take the Rumble 350. I played through a buddy's Vox ss. It sounded good, but not as good as the Rumble.

I'm still in awe of the JB's versatility. I recently played my Ric, and I love what the Ric does, but it's not so versatile as the Jazz Bass.
