Hi Brad,

I'm addressing this topic to you, since being one from Fender, you may be able to help me out with this one.

I recently crossed roads with a 75 Jazz Bass Japan on the bay. I'm quite okay with the look, mechanics and finish, which would persuade me of being a real deal, but what I noticed on this models is that the Fender logo itself is a way thinner with a binding (considering 75 Jazzes and 75 RIs). Would you mind take a look on the link and tell me your impression? I would be very grateful if you could assist me!

Thank you in advance!

Welcome to the forum. To me this looks totally legit Fender Japan. The seller does state that the pickups are not original, which in the case of Fender Japan is not at all a bad thing on a player class instrument. If you want a collector class instrument you would want to look elsewhere. However mostly the Japanese Fenders are played, not collected. There are a few Fender Japan collectors, but not enough to significantly drive up prices...at least yet.

This is a Fender Japan 75 reissue. These were only sold in Japan which is why you've possibly not seen one like it where you live, unless of course you live in Japan.

There are many models and colors made by Fender Japan that were never exported. This is just one. Fender Japan instruments made for domestic consumption are produced in smaller quantities than export models and thus are more highly sought after by the few collectors of Fender Japan non-export models. Some of them are so limited in production that they were actually made in a Custom Shop of sorts exactly to order for a customer of a Fender Japan domestic dealer.

This one however is no longer collector class due to the modifications, but might be a good player class one. One can't tell without playing it.

It is important to know that the Fender Japan pickups and the USA pickups often have slightly different dimensions which could mean one or both of the instrument's pickup cavities had to be modified to accommodate the USA pickup modification.

I can confirm this. Some time ago I bought an 11-screw vintage-style MIJ Fender pickguard for a Jazz Bass build, using a MIM body and MIA CS '62 pickups. Nothing about that Japanese pickguard jived with the Mexican body's screw-hole location, the neck pocket configuration, or the control cavity rout, and the American pickups were too large to fit the pickguard unless I chose to first enlarge the openings.
