Hello,

I am a drummer primarily that also plays keys/piano and is looking to get into elec bass. I am looking for a decent first bass.

I like the Jazz bass, but a US made is out of my price range.

How does the Squire Vintage Modified J bass compare with the MIM J bass ?

Am I better off finding a used MIM for the same price ?

Also, will the VM's 30 frets limit me eventually ?

thanks

The Squier is a nice bass. I have one as well as a MIM Jazz. If you could find a used Jazz for the same price, that would be my first choice.

30 frets?

I have the 1977 VM jazz. I like the sound of it better than the Mexican. It plays well too. Those Duncan Designed pickups have a really springy tight sound.
