I'm thinking of buying a Highway man jazz bass.I played one in the store(it's an '07) and it sounded good, but I noticed the neck feels pretty big.Is there anyone who could tell me more about that kind of bass and would you recommend it?This will be my first purchase of a bass(i usually play strats) and I want to get some feed-back from other bass players. Thanks in advance. Also I'm considering the Geddy Lee .Which is better?

hi, I have a couple of students who have the Highway one and a few with the Geddy Lee. The Geddy has a little more of a vintage tone. The highway one has the grease-bucket tone configuration that doesn't add bass when you turn the tone knob down. If your doing Beatles covers that could be an issue, but a small one nonetheless. If your moving from guitar to bass consider that the Geddy has a thinner neck that is also bound. The detail and craftsmanship on the geddy is well... ...superior to the highway one. Also, they have the same bridge but the highway one has the grooved saddles as the Geddy has the old school regular saddles that are cut to the string size. The highway bridge is a little brighter sounding. I like the funk tones from the Geddy more than the Highway one. I think I'm liking the Geddy more these days.

Hope this helped.

I agree with the Geddy having the vintage vibe. I think it's one of the better bargains around. CIJ!!!

i have not played wither but here are some pros and cons about the look: ilove the geddy lee neck but the body looks too plain where as the highway one has this finnish where you can see the grain of the wood which is really awesome and on the other hand the geddy lee has the le quon II bridge which is killer so its alll up to your preference really

As far as sound, what kind of sound are you looking for? Sound is only good to you, others might like it, you might not, vice versa. I play a lot of heavy music - primarily NYHC, either bass would work, I would just adjust the tone from the eq on my amp. I play straight through btw. If chosing by looks, for me it's a tough one, I like the HWY1 but I've been digging the vintage look lately and the Geddy delivers that look. They are similar in price, HWY1 is MIA, and the Geddy is CIJ. The Geddy has a little bit better craftmanship IMHO. I've also played with both with the same amp set up @ the local music store plenty of times.

PS. Being a guitar player, you might like the Geddy better due to the smaller neck (thinner).
