I recently purchased a Fender Select Jazz that was absolutely noisy as could be. Had a similar issue with a new American Deluxe P bass. Why is it that Fender isn't shielding these expensive basses? Are the Custom Shop models shielded?

I'm really upset there wasn't any shielding in this thing....especially for the money they charged for it. Not a bit of it...but I'm like many who customize their basses, so why should this one be treated any differently.

Inside the cavity...no shielding?
Is this even normal...my American Standard had the aditional ground wire to the body cavity, and this didn't.

After a shielding job and added some Lindy Fralin hum cancelling pickups.

...and a pickguard change...love this bass now...but seriously...for $2299, this bass should have had some shielding paint...I was/am disappointed.

Fender cuts costs to save money because of the 2008 global financial crash, that's why they didn't shield most of their basses.

Glad to see your Select Jazz shielded. Looks and sounds damn' cool with the tort guard and Lindy Fralins. :P Your bass would look much better if you put a thumbrest and ashtray covers.

I guess you've also done the shielding in your USA Deluxe P.

Thanks...and I figured it was a cost saving measure to not shield it. I actually returned the Am Dlx to get this one. It does sound amazing too.

I've been avoiding commenting on this becaue, it's really a sore spot with me. Quite honestly, I wouldn't pay as much as you did for a bass, I'm cheap, and, if I did and had your issues, i'd probably stroke out.

Glad you had the expertise to make your bass, yours.

it really is a beautiful instrument.

Meh...comment away. We're all Fender fans or we wouldn't be posting on the Forums. I was upset initially, but I love my bass. I've paid almost as much for basses that didn't sound nearly as good...I just wanted it to be nice and quiet.

People pay $2400 for foreign made Sadowsky Metros, which I don't think are better than my Select. It has a beautiful neck and top, and I love it. Would I have been as happy with the tone of an American Standard...probably...I have an American Std Jazz and P bass as well...and they are on par with this one. Shielding tape cost me $20 and took all of 45 minutes to do, but I did expect it to come with this task already done.
