I just became an unexpecting owner of a Select Jazz Bass this week,....... on Valentine's day after work I stopped By Long & McQuade music to get some strings & to see if a Custom Shop bass that I was interested in getting was still there, well the Custom shop bass was sold & I saw this Fender Select Jazz Bass sitting on a stand, I went over to try it out & I saw a sale tag of $1850. (regular street price in my area is $2399.) on this bass, ........ as I played it I kept saying to myself ....wow this bass plays like butter.......what an amazing neck.....& there's no buzz on this
bass from the pickups,...it's totally quiet.
I asked the sales Guy why it was so cheap & he told me that just before Christmas someone bought it new (financed it) & then about a week ago the owner returned it saying
he could not afford it so Long & McQuade Music took the Bass bass & it was a Score for me as even though it was only used for a month L&M had to sell it as a used bass..... Whoo Hoo,....... :) From the Case to the Bass it self this is a really cool package .... IMO though the Select may be a little pricey I truely think it's worth it....

@James Coderre

It's the active version or the passive?

The Select Jazz Bass came in two guises:

Congrats for the purchase. We expect seeing some pictures and (if possible) a video from your new acquisition in action.

I bought the passive 2012 model with the Amber burst finish,....... I prefer passive basses, 3 of my Jazz basses have the active /passive option & I play them in passive mode most of the time ... This is a sweet sounding bass .

thanks Mr. Nylon ........ definitely at the right place at the right time & at that price How could I say no ........ & the Fact it's a 2012 Select hopefully it will hold it's value down the
the road in 20 yrs or so..... ( I guess it would depend on how many were made in 2012, the Select series is supposed to be limited with new models hitting the market each year just like Fender has done for 2013..... but who knows)

I'm hoping the numbers work in you favor. Once again, great bass.

Thanks Phil.
Yes, it's the standard one. All stock except for the pickguard and I had it shielded.

Mine has a lot of flame, just like the passive one pictured here. At this juncture I prefer passive basses, so I'm glad they started out with the passive model in 2012. The active electronics in the new American Deluxes didn't do anything for me.

Congrats James. $1850...that's an awesome deal. That's the price point I think Fender should sell these at. I unfortunately paid $2199 for mine...but it's the best bass I've ever owned.

Thanks "Raginrog" I really fluked out on this purchase, I'm also glad I got the 2012 Passive model, ........I've been eyeing the Fender Select from a distance ever since it was released to market last year, this is also the 8th bass in my arsenal (I have 7 Jazz basses, 1 P Bass & 1 Ibanez acoustic bass) & there's something definitely different with the Select Jazz Bass it's like it's got a slight edge in feel & sound,..... I can't say it's the best bass I've ever owned because I think my MIJ Marcus Miller Jazz Bass,.. my 2006 CIJ Geddy Lee Jazz,... my Jaco Fretless & my 2011 American Deluxe Jazz bass 5 string are all good basses.....though the Select Jazz is definitely something special.

You're welcome. Hell, I bought mine just as they came out. Glad I did, because now that my wife's pregnant with twins, she'd probably not allow such a frivolous purchase! :mrgreen:

I have 4- 3 jazzes, and an 80's Yamaha RBX200. I've owned about 70 different basses, which includes expensive Rics, Musicman, and Modulus basses, and this Select is defintely my favorite.

I need to take it for a gig though- I always baby it.
