I've been finicky with my last couple of purchases, but I'm really digging this bass. I'll say it looks like a million bucks, and the single coils sound really, really nice albeit the hum (which is even present with both pickups on full). Much thicker/fuller sound than any other single coils I've had. Apparently mine is the 86th one (according to the certificate it came with)...no big deal. The finish looks much better in person, and mine is thankfully much lighter than the promotional store pictures I've seen.

It came set up perfect for my liking...not extremely low action or high...just right, and easy enough to play some quick fills. The fretwork was much nicer than I've had on my American standards. The bass is soooo light too, and came in weighing 8.8 lbs. It's the lightest bass I've owned...seriously. My only complaints are that the lacquer finish on the body and neck (nitro?) was a bit sticky...but a little ultra fine steel wool and polish cured that. It's typical Jazz bass noisy (shielding job would have been nice), and since they used a 3 piece body, the back should have been black. This is my opinion per the price compared to that of the American Standard. Do I still like my bass...Hell Yes!

yes, it is routed beneath the pickguard...so no clear pickguard for this baby.

Thanks...and I definitely will. My other basses haven't been touched since I got it a couple of weeks ago.

Gorgeous!

Now, if it didn't hum a little, would it be a single coil passive Jazz?

Okay...update.

I'm really upset there wasn't any shielding in this thing....especially for the money they charged for it. Not a bit of it...but I'm like many who customize their basses, so why should this one be treated any differently.

Inside the cavity...no shielding?
Is this even normal...my American Standard had the aditional ground wire to the body cavity, and this didn't.

After a shielding job and added some Lindy Fralin hum cancelling pickups.

...and a pickguard change...love this bass now...but seriously...for $2299, this bass should have had some shielding paint...I was/am disappointed.

Wow that's disappointing to here,....I agree with you for the price you paid there should have been some decent shielding done,...I see you've even swapped out the Select pickups for a set of Lidy Fralin's.

I recently got to play a Select Jazz,.......nice basses.

Your bass looks beautiful with the tortiseshell pickguard. With your mods I'm sure it sounds awesome. It is trobling that quality is getting lax. It's everywhere, companyies manufacture using as little as they can, I experience it every day. I'm an Inspector in a tube mill, quality is a bad joke.

Yeah...I guess that's the standard now. It's like pickguards I suppose...everyone upgrades the pickguard, occasionally the pickups...and now the shielding.

And yes, those are Lindy's hum cancelling pickups.

Thanks OxFan...I don't mind doing it, but the price point shouldn't be as high.

These kinds of things get me cranked. You paid a handsome price for a great bass. You made it a whole lot better. No matter, you're happy and YOU are the proud owner of an instrument that few of us here can lay claim to.

Enjoy! If you decide you don't like it after a while, you can PM ME AND I'll send you my address. :D

I wanted to follow up on my initial post...especially now that I've had the bass for a couple of months.

It's a very nice jazz...very comfortable ( I love the compound radius neck), the neck is a upgrade, that while subtle...adds a very nice improvement to the playability.

The issue with the feel of the neck, the sticky feeling on the neck and body finish...I think the finish hadn't quite cured yet. I think that letting it sit for awhile let it harden/cure and it is now quite nice and smooth.

It's amazing looking...I keep wanting to play it while standing in front of a mirror so I can see how nice it looks while I play.
