Hey guys,

I was wondering if anyone knows which Jazz Bass Family Man used to play back on the days with Bob Marley & The Wailers. I seen and read a couple of interviews and he talks about the love for J-Bass and how his old one is in a museum in Seatle.

I just can't find the information anywhere about which model and year he used to play with.

Please Help Me !!!!

Thanks! :D

I don't think he ever actually owned that bass, it was rented/leased. He had lots of different basses, but in one interview I read that he never actually owned that bass, just leased it.

Thanks for your answer.

The whole point of this topic is to know which J-Bass model he used to play back on the 70s, it doesn't matter whether he owned the bass or not. I understand he played different basses along his career but again... was an American Standard? was a 1975?

Anyways, I hope someone comes with the information.

Cheers! :D

I don't think Mr. Barrett even knows what model year it was. All he ever said about it that I can find is that it was a leased Jazz. It could be a 60's model.

As for the specific model, it would have been a Fender Jazz Bass. They made only one variety of Jazz Bass then. The only difference would be fretboard/fingerboard material and whether it was fretted or fretless. Someone will either have to go to the museum or contact them in order to get the serial. The problem is he never gives the actual name of the museum.

I'm going to email the Burke Museum on the off chance it is there. If anyone knows which museum for sure has it in Seattle, please pipe up!

The Burke Museum in Seattle has directed me to the EMP Museum, which is more guitar oriented. I've sent them an information request. If and when they respond I'll post the outcome.

That's very interesting. Do you know since when Fender started to make more than one variety of Jazz Bass?

1983 when they cranked up in Japan. Up till then pretty much only one model with different options.

I have heard nothing back from the EMP Museum in Seattle. May have to phone them.
