I just got my first j-bass and I love it! the range of sound you can get on it is amazing. Its a squier vintage modified jazz bass (not the fretless) everything's pretty nice on it but im getting so bad buzzing on my big E string, you cant hear it if your not playing hard but when you slap its pretty bad. Any ideas whats causing this and how to fix it? Thanks

What kind of buzz? Electronic or the string buzzing against the frets?

If it is buzzing against the frets, well can be solved by either adjusting the bridge or the neck itself. One thing to note, just about all jazz basses have fret buzz if you keep the action low (even Marcus Miller's bass buzzes). But as long as you do not hear it out of the amp....you're ok. All my jazz basses buzz, but not bad enough to come through the amp.

My new AM STD J does the same thing. Take a look at the nut. I think mine was grooved to far. Try sticking a toothpick or a match under the string at the nut. See if that helps, if not, you may have to replace the nut.

Go to the Fender products page, look up any bass and at the bottom of the page is a link to the owners manual. It's a PDF file and you can save it to your PC. It has instructions on how to adjust the neck and bridge height. If this doesn't work go to a music store that has a technician who may be able to fix it up.

I get the impression your starting the journey, if that is so you might want to learn not to pluck your strings too hard if your a finger style player or raise your action. If thats not possible. I personally would have a tech adjust your neck then show you why and how too do it.
