I have a lefty mexican Fender Jazz - and there is something seriously wrong with it.

Whenever I play any of the strings, they sound muted, all the time. The G is the least affected, with the problem getting worse through to the E which is simply ridiculous.

I imagine this problem is something to do with the bridge but I have tried cleaning it up and cleaning the strings and the problem is persisting.

Any help would be MUCH appreciated as it is killing not being able to play :(

Thanks in advance!

How old are the strings.
By muted do you mean that you have a good clean fundamental note of short duration but it doesn't sustain? Or do you mean that there is very little volume?

The cable! Duh! That is too obvious!

I found out yesterday it is not wise to overlook obvious things like that. Local garage charged lady for oil change, she paid and left. Got several miles before her engine seized up because garage forgot to put oil in her car. "I wondered why it sounded funny and the engine light was on...." DUH! She wanted her money back for the oil change.

The morale, often what you assume to be good, isn't.
