I am trying to decide between a 64 Custom Shop and a Custom Classic with the preamp etc.

I have read great reviews on the 64 Custom Shop but could not find much comment on the Custom Classics.

Are the Custom Classic basses built to the same high standards and care as the passive Custom Shop basses.

thanks
Max

Welcome to the Forum Max!

You might want to post that same question in the CUSTOM SHOP forum for Mike Eldred and others with a more extensive knowledge of Custom Shop models to address. The Custom Shop section of the Forum is listed on down the list on the Board Index page. Both of the models you inquired upon are CS basses and I'd expect the quality to be superior in any copy of either model to any current regular production model. But you should ask there to be sure.

I love my Custom Classic Jazz. I got it new for a lot less than a Custom Shop passive.
I think it's more a matter of preference. Both are top notch instruments but not everybody likes active basses. The only issue that bothers me is, that the CC does not have a active/passive switch. The New Jazz Deluxe has that switch and is also an excellent jazz bass.

Thanks Jay
I have noticed that the CCs are generally cheaper which made me question the quality given that they also have the added preamp etc.

The only thing I can say is this: There is not a single flaw on my Custom Classic. Top Quality, really! Sweetwater still carries the Custom Classics series and they are not cheap:

My CC looks like the one here but with a matching head stock and maple neck.

Good luck with your search.
