Just asking out of curiosity.

Photos encouraged.

Only mods on mine were pickguard, and covers.

Oh yes, this bass has the coveted red mock crocodile strap on it.

Now that's what I'd call modifications, looks good.

2011 Standard J-Bass: Went with the '62 Vintage retro look with the Fender logo bridge cover, GHS M3050 45-105 flatwounds, thumb rest in the E string position, shell pickguard, Dunlop Snaplocks and DiMarzio DP149 pickups.

By the way - The DiMarzio DP149 pickup set eliminated the characteristic original Fender single coil hum and gives the Jazz Bass a much wider range of sound that can duplicate a P-Bass, Power Jazz Bass, American Standard J-Bass, Deluxe Jazz Bass and anything in between. The output level from the DiMarzios is 250mv - which is much higher than some aftermarket pickups. If you have never tested a J-Bass with DiMarzio pickups, please do so, if you are considering an upgrade yourself. You will be surprised at the pickup's flexibility in making your J-Bass into something that the original single coil configuration can't get close to.

I opted to not install a pickup cover over the neck pickup because I play in that area sometimes for a little more 'brightness' and the cover would be in the way.

More times than I can count! The only one I have not modded is my '72 Jazz. Completely stock!

But my latest creation from last month......

It started as a new 2011 Fender Jazz Standard Fretless. Just like this one:

Than I bought from that guy that parts out new Fender instruments on eBay, a brand new 2011 3-Color Sunburst body from the Fender Classic 70's Jazz Bass (just the body). I prefer the 70's pickup location like my '72 Jazz.

So put the neck onto this body as well as the stock electronics. Replaced the stock bridge with a Gotoh 201 and topped it off with a new Fender Tort Pickguard. Turned out GREAT! Sounds like a classic fretless Jazz and is a looker!

Here it is next to my '72 Jazz.....

I have never modified any bass. My feeling is that if I have to make modifications, then I really don't like it so why buy it. I only buy what sounds good to me in it's original stock state.

However, I have been thinking about buying a bass for the sole purpose of making modifications for experimental reasons.

Only thing I did to my 2003 Re-Issue '75 Jazz Bass was replace the black pickguard with a chrome one, to match the pickup and bridge covers! All natual wood and chrome!

I just put an Am. Std. Precision neck on my '08 Am. Std. Jazz. I prefer P necks and this was the closest I was ever going to get without having to order one from the Custom Shop!

I've contemplated doing the same thing. The neck on my Precision is sweet.

I have a 2010 MIM 60's Jazz Bass that I think is awesome. I added the brass grounding strip to make it a bit more authentic (and my luthier hooked it up to help with hum). I thought about adding the thumb rest, but I think it would get in the way.
