I was at guitar center this morning trying out basses, in particular fender jazz basses... One bass really caught my attention, The Marcus Miller Jazz MIJ bass... Awesome bass with the ability to switch between active and passive...

Guitar center had it for ~$1200 new...

Just out of curiousity, I went over to Music123 to see if they had a used one... and they did... for something like $950 in Mint condition.... So, living dangerously as I do, I added it to my cart...

And strangely enough, Music123 took %15 off of that... leaving it to be ~$820... No tax with free shipping...

Oh man I couldn't resist... I bought it... Always nice to have a backup bass right ?

This is a VERY popular model with lots of fans. I always advise against buying mass production basses online, especially used, but that was one tempting deal. Often the used ones will be returns someone else didn't like for some reason.

He he - I hear you man! I bought one in my shop, and then had to wait for months before I finally got it last saturday. I have not let go of it since then for more than 1-2min at a time. I love this bass because it has such a character/personality. It's not like any other bass really. ENJOY MAN :-)

Always amazes me how we can fall in, and out of love with our instruments. Glad they don't have feelings.

Aint that the truth! :P

I recently saw a late '80's black Power Jazz Special on eaby that looks exactly like one that I use to own. I was really tempted to buy it.

I sold mine to a young bass player shortly after I bought my first 5 string in '92. He was always asking me to sell it to him and it was too good of a bass to set around not getting played. I don't regret selling it to him, but I have often thought about that bass. I've sold some good equipment at some really good prices tryin' to help out young players. I still remember when I was young and didn't have much more than my own fingers in my pockets.

It really played and sounded great. I often got compliments on it's sound from fellow bass players and guitar players as well, but a couple of guitar players told me it felt too much like a guitar and they preferred my old P-bass because it felt like a "real" bass!

Whatta ya gonna do?

The Marcus Miller Jazz is a nice bass but in my opinion, you paid too much for a MIJ model. I have seen used MIA Marcus Miller basses in that price range. To each is own. I prefer American made Fenders but would buy a Japanese model if the price was right (say around $500 to $600).
