I want to order a Fender SKB case like the one that comes with the Am Deluxe for my Geddy Lee J.... does anyone know the exact part # of this case? i found reference to a few "multifit" cases on the site but not sure if that case is a multi or J specific....

Unless you are going on tour you might want to spring the extra few bucks for the G&G made Fender Tolex case for the following reasons.
It looks better.
The lining is better.
The separate compartment is roomier and more secure.
The SKB's case frame may be a tad sturdier than the G&G but it is still far from being a true flight or road case as i would not go on world tour by air with one.
Which case does the Custom Shop use? G&G. (But I wouldn't go on world tour with a G&G either. I might chance one or two flights in the SKB but I sure wouldn't push my luck.)

The SKB is an ok case for ground transport but it is universal fit. The G&G Jazz case is made for the Jazz.

If you want a tour case that will actually stand up to frequent airline travel you will have to spend way more for a real tour case such as one by Anvil.

More and more tour players are renting instruments or having them specified in the backline so tour cases are becoming archaic. Airlines are murder on guitar cases and with the added baggage fees it is about as cheap to rent one as fly one.

thanks for the info Dave, the only reason i really want or am considering the case that comes with the Am Deluxe (which i presume is an SKB case) is that it's so light... my existing case weighs a ton (empty) and when i first test drove the Am Deluxe one of the things i loved right away was how light it was in the case... i dont fly, just do local gigs, but have had to walk a block sometimes from where i park and like the lighter case...

i would certainly look at the G&G but want to avoid another "heavy" case....

my Ric came with an SKB case as well and when i ordered the vintage case for it i hated it because it is now at least 3 times heavier than before....
