Hallo zusammen!

LG,
insomnia

Loose translation to English:
"With my new fender American Deluxe jazz bass V of 2011 the following problem appears: If I touch with the fingers one lying open Pole Pieces - all the same which and then an irritating bright hum sounds, like the infamous single Coil hum, only unacceptable loudly and sometimes with a small crack at first. Well noticed - it is not about the strings, but the poles Pieces.

That happens of course also sometimes by mistake with the play, also with the thumb if he finds a supporting position somewhere on the pickup cover... The string position is put rather low.

Whether I turn up both pickups or only one, is unimportant for the phenomenon - then the touched pickup is turned up, then there is hums.

Nevertheless N3 (Noiseless) PUs are obstructed!

Do you know the problem? What can I do?"

Random thoughts about this. 1. Put on chrome pickup and bridge covers. 2. Don't
touch the poles. 3. Lower the pickups so they are harder to touch.

Some people's bodies generate more electrical current than most others, you possibly are in the "more electrical current" camp.

Any hum or noise is going to be amplified many fold by the preamp. Any pickup pole will do that when you touch it, but on an active instrument it sounds 10 times worse.

----
Raue Übersetzung ins Deutsche:

Zufällige Gedanken darüber. 1. Gestellt auf die Chromerholung und Brücke-Deckel. 2. Berühren Sie die Pole nicht. 3.

Denken Sie daran Abschirmung könnte Ihr Klang beeinflussen.
Glück

Sorry, I dont speak German, blame it on google translate if I sound funny.
My N3s used to have the same problem. The noise stopped after I put copper shielding tape inside the cavities. You might want to do the same thing. Copper tape with conductive adhere is easy to use and price is reasonable. You can also pay someone to do it for you. But remember that shielding you bass might affect you tone.
Good luck

Benjulio, Copper shielding to common ground if done properly should in not negatively impact the tone whatsoever.

I think he is talking about the noise only when he touches the poles on the pickups. Shielding won't help that. The only thing that will improve that situation is not touching the poles.

>Brotherdave,
I know he was talking about the poles.
While I was shielding mine, I took the pick-up cover off just for the hack of it.
I notice the poles were connected to the pickup ground via the PCB they were mounted on(yup, 2 half height coils, 10 poles, PCB)*. So my hypothesis is when the cavities are not shield, he touches the poles and his body became part of the pickup, which the background hum goes from him to the output.
However when the bass is shielded, the Faraday's cage is complete(almost, depends on how it was done). This case, touching the poles would be the same as touching the strings or other exposing metal parts.
Put aside this theory whatsoever, it works for me, hope it would work for him too.

The tone part, I agree with you 100%, if and only if the shield is properly grounded, because mine sounds way better without the noise.

But some rock icon guitarist, I don't remember the name but he took the metal cover off his humbucker, may be its for the tone or for the look? who knows. (Sorry guys, I remember their names in my language but not English, forgive me)

*Back in the good old days, V pickups should be 1 coil, 10 poles right? poles are not grounded or how they did it? wish i can open up one to......... :)
