Dude-ness--- you need to post pictures otherwise we are lost on it too! Japanese guitars and basses are all over the place specwise and modelwise and paintwise and serialnumberwise... they are foggy untill they are pinned down by the experts here . So pics is goot!

you have to seach and pic your photos once you have them loaded in your pictures and post them to photobucket then get back on here and open a tab and select photobucket, Once the pics come up on photobucket you hover over them and click on the http then come back to fender and push ctrl and V then that copies them to this site. And now you need to get the whole skinny from Brother Dave or from somewhere because you will probubly need to do that anyway.

what are the lines on the body? That is a nice sunburst- I don't know a whole lot about Japan basses. I'm interested in finding out about it too. That's the first one I've seen like that.

Looks like a foto-flame finish that cracked. Basically wallpaper with a translucent finish over it. Haven't seen one exactly like this. Might have been one for domestic consumption in the Land of the Rising Sun. The Japanese sort of "perfected" this finish process. Basically it is a photo glued to the wood then shellacked over. The cracks would be the result of a temperature extreme most likely as they are uncommon on foto-flame finishes.

I thought that's what those cracks were. I'd say you can't fix it unless you just strip the bass and redo the paint job completely. If there is a photo on the the wood I would think it is of such thickness that it would not allow the finish over it to be removed because you would get down into the picture and remove it (also) trying to remove the finish on top.
