Hey. Im looking into getting either a Squier Classic Vibe 60s Jazz bass or a Fender Standard MIM Jazz bass. I've heard the Alnico pickups in the CV are better than the Fender, but i dont know. Any help would be appreciated :)

My CV Squier plays great through my 69 Bassman. And the HiMass bridge is great. It's a keeper.

Play them both. Let your heart decide. Gotta say Squier has really gotten it together and has totally gigable basses.

I bought and gigged with Classic Vibe Jazz bass. It blows away the Mexican Jazz IMHO.
I don't know what they did to get the quality and the tone of the CV Jazz and I don't know if they will continue to be as good as they are, but they are a respectable bass.

I returned mine within 30 days at GC to pay some other bills, but I wanted to keep that bass.

I think that HiMass bridge is a good start in the CV tone. Would rather it be made of Alder than basswood. But then there is the great price...

I don't like Squiers. Playing one always makes me think that I should be playing the real deal instead. I've had a couple of CVs and VMs too. I find them sounding dull and muddy in the low ends, and metallic/clangy/zingy in the top. I think the sheer amount of Squiers sold are making the real Jazz Bass a cliche to people, who can't tell the difference. It's a beautiful picture on the wall, but you can't really take a walk in it, and Squier is a beautifully made guitar - it just lacks that. . . something!
I would without blinking get the MIM standard. I am selling one right now actually. Sunburst fretless maple neck, alderbody. Mint cond. I had everything copper shielded, rewired and changed the electronics and jack. No static hum or buzz exept for what needs to be there for a passive bass. It plays wonderfully - but just has a cheap feel. The neck is too elastic and the body seems too lightweight, so it goes. :-)
