Yea, that sounds right. I got mine from Long and McQuade in Calgary- $1033 taxes in, the tag was $945. It is worth the price though; thin neck and vintage looks seal the deal! Oh, and that Rush association... 8)

Hey just wondering what are your thoughts about the Geddy Jazz bass, I'm thinking about buying it as my next bass, but I'm not sure if its worth the 1000$ that my local music shop has it up for.

Thanks.

You can buy a new Geddy Lee off of eBay for $699 and $799 plus shipping. I use one as my main workhorse and it is a wonderful instrument, sounds great, stays in tune, basically like buying a brand new 1972 Jazz, except a thinner neck (which I very much prefer) and the Badass bridge. I use Fender SS Flatwounds and get that great traditional Fender Jazz sound. Any good Fender Jazz is a good investment, but this one is especially hard to beat. I will probably use this bass until I cannot play anymore, that's how much I like it. Shop around. You'll find one for a decent price, and you won't regret it. Good luck and have fun..

There are a lot of posts complaining about the Geddy neck being "too thin".

Are you out of your minds!?
That's THE reason to buy this beauty.
The thin neck on this bass is sweeeeet.

If only they made a custom shop version of this puppy.

By the way, I read in Bass Player that they're going to be making some changes/upgrades to the next run of the Geddy basses--sanded necks, improved tuning posts, etc. So maybe hold off until the new ones come into the store?

yeah, i actually also thought it was to thin. its just a matter of opinion, i loved the bass otherwise but the neck didnt feel comfortable for me to play. the bass is a beauty, but i was deciding on whether to buy the geddy or a jag bass. i ended up getting the jag but i recommended the geddy lee jazz bass to a friend who ended up buying it.

The thin neck is the main reason I bought the Geddy Lee model. I've had to deal with hand problems for years, even switched to short scales (Mustangs) for a while until I ran across one of these. Much less stress on my left hand than with other full scale models, as a matter of fact, the Geddy is as easy on my hand as the Mustang. An added bonus for me is that it is a brand new version of one of my favorite basses, an early 70's Jazz. I feel right at home with a Jazz, especially the Geddy model, but as someone mentioned earlier, the Jaguar is also one to consider. I liked it very much, still do, but it has more electronics than I personally need or prefer.

I am the proud owner of a Geddy Lee. I have 4 other Jazz basses that can't compare to this bass. Even thought the fact that it's built in Japan, the bass is excellant in quality from the neck to the body. The only thing i am changing is the tuners which are not up to quality like the american standard, and I'm changing the pickguard to a pearloid (my preferance). I play it thru my SVT Classic, and it blows away everything else I own, from my Jazzes, P's, MM's and Laklands. Change out the strings to Roto's, and your good to go. I've read that some guys have noticed glue specs on the black block fret markers. None on mine. Super fast slim neck, not for the timid. This bass kicks $@!. GO BUY ONE OF THESE. Ken

I prefer the thin neck as well, which is one of the main reasons I bought mine.

I inquired with the custom shop about building a bass a couple years ago.
I wanted a passive j-bass with nothing but one volume (no tone), a clear woodgrain finish, and a maple 24 fret neck that had the same basic specs as the GL. They quoted me a price of around 6k.

So I bought the jazz 24 instead, gutted it to remove the active circuitry, connected both pickups to one volume control and saved 5300 bucks.

The fact that the Geddy Lee is made in Japan in my opinion is a plus. In my experience and I own 15 Fender's of which 3 are made in Japan(Geddy Lee, Marucs Miller, and a Foto Flame p bass) and the rest in the US, the Japan made basses are more consistent craftmanship overall vs the US made basses. It's not a negative that its made in Japan and in fact should be viewed as positive. I've seen US made Custom Shop basses and guitars with horrible neck pocket/joints where no one took any care to fit the neck properly. The US made basses/guitars, can be hit or miss with regards to craftsmanship. Japanese craftmenship is on a par with the US and at times I would even say even better. Sadowsky Metro basses while "lower line" price wise vs the the Brooklyn made ones are on a par in terms of quality and the reason Sadowskly set up shop in Japan vs elsewhere that has lower labor rates.

Serial number is S059701.

Ill try to get some pics up soon.

This bass is truly unique!! And i am one proud owner of this rock machine!!!!!
Its sounds HUGE! big solid bottom, and the screaming mids and highs, it will cut through whenever you want, and still hold a big bottom!
The thin neck is one of my favorite spec. i´m a small player, with small hands, and this neck allows me to "FLY" over the fret board, and do so much.......
the "less good" points are:
It doesnt has a lot a gain.... but with a good amp..... you wont need it!
when you select only one of the pus, you here a small buzz, but its normal on single coils!
MY ADVICE:
ITS THE BEST BASS OF ALL TIMES! go and get one, you cant go wrong!
( and i do have a fender precision usa, musicman, ibanez, and the geddy is my nº1 bass 4 ever!)
