Hey just wondering what are your thoughts about the Geddy Jazz bass, I'm thinking about buying it as my next bass, but I'm not sure if its worth the 1000$ that my local music shop has it up for.

Thanks.

I am planning on getting a geddy in the near future, i have heard good things about them, the only bad is people saying the necks are too thin.

I live in england a one would set me back £600, roughly converted that is $1220 dollars so $1000 is a bargain

The jazz bass is worth having at any price. you can get a brand new one $200. cheaper through musiciansfriend.com you may have to wait a few weeks but its worth it when you pull a new guitar out of the manufacturers box.

I own multiple Fender Jazz basses (Geddy, American Standard, 5 string etc.) and can give you some very specific feedback regarding the Geddy Lee model. While the neck is much thinner then other models it is a great bass. It has alot of clarity and the pickups are unlike anything else in the Fender line. Outstanding bass for the price.

First off $1000.00 is too much to pay for a Geddy Lee for that much I can get an American Standard J bass with the S1 switch. Shop online and you should be able to get them for $799 or if they have last year's stock and have not increased the price then $699 (2005-6 retail Minimum Advertised Price). If you want to haggle, in general retailers buy them at 50% off of the LIST price and gernerally sell it to you at 30% off of the list price. This should help you in your haggling, e.g. if the list price is $1000 then the store buys it from Fender at $500 and sells it to you at $700. From time to time they get rebates and other incentives from Fender to move things out, or if they have been sitting on the bass for years, they may sell it below cost just to get rid of it and get some of their money back. It's always a game, like buying a car :)

I was thinking of getting a Geddy Lee or a Marcus Miller and decided with the Marcus Miller J bass since it has more tonal options with the active pre-amp and cut-off switch. Only negative about the Marcus Miller is, at least the one I got, its HEAVY. The ash body is like a brick! The Marcus Miller now cost $999 or about $2-300 cheaper than the Geddy Lee. Try buying used and a Geddy Lee should run you around $550-650 used on Ebay, if you see one $500 or below and in good shape than its a deal .

Hope this helps you in your decision.

My Geddy was hangin new in Sam Ash for $699. They knocked off $30 when I asked them for an unopened one. I also traded in a 15 year old Steinberger copy by Blake for another hundred off. So, my Geddy was a little more than $500. Don't pay a grand. Shop and you should be able to get one at least $300 less brand new. Great bass and worth the retail price of $699

The Geddy has turned into my main play bass. It has turned the heads of players of basses twice the price, and when combined with a unmentionable bass modeler gets additional questions. This is a solid bass and well worth the price. On and off guitar fancies - I turn back to Fender.

I have only two gripes about the Geddy bass. I found the neck way to thin for my liking and the back is to sticky. If they would have put a satin finish on the back of the neck and left the kept the regular J bass neck dimensions, this bass would have been killer!!

Hi,

I am a complete newbie to bass guitar - I am just learning at the age of 34! But, my husband bought me a used Geddy Lee Jazz, and from the newbie side of things, it seems like a great bass already. It has been very smooth for me to learn to hold and position with, and the sound has been great.

My husband, a 30 year guitar player, just loves it - and when we picked it up from the store, the staff were very upset to see it go (they wanted it for themselves).

Hope this helps in your decision.

They are sweet basses, I installed an Audere pre-amp in mine because it didn't have the output I wanted.

I've been using my GL as my main bass for about 3 years now. It's an absolutely AWESOME bass. It has a great thump, but articulates enough for the highs to cut.

The stage rig I use is actually two rigs. I use an Ampeg BR to push a Marshall 1x15 and a Hartke 3500 to push a hartke 4x10. I split off a stereo chorus. That is my only effect pedal (besides a tuner, obviously)

It cost me 600 dollars new.

I also use a Aerodyne Jazz (which I like but it lacks the bottom end of the geddy) and a Jazz 24. Both the aerodyne and the 24 are first production year models. The jack placelemt on the aerodyne is pretty bad (they fixed it the following year) and the 24 is my third one. The first two had bad preamp circuitry. After going through two of them in about a month, I got the replacement, gutted it, took out all the electronics, rewired it so both pickups go to a single volume, and disconnected the rest of the pots. Sounds great!

I only wish they made a 24 fret GL. That would be perfect.

I'm another Geddy Lee owner. I've been wanting one since they came out, and finally this past March my wife bought me one for our anniversary. It has become my main bass now, and I've decided to sell me 2003 American Jazz (with S/1) now. The thinner neck is one of the features that I like the most about the bass, and of course its great tone.

I wish it came with a hardshell though. My dealer let me upgrade mu gig bag to a Fender HS case though.
