Hi guys. I recently changed my string on my Geddy Lee for the first time. I have had no issues with any other bass I've owned in the past, but for some reason the A string keeps coming out of it's groove in the nut when I play. It keeps sliding up towards the E string.

Any suggestions?

I was thinking the string may be cut a bit too short, but I did make sure to cut them to same length as the previous set.

Odd. Does the slot in the Nut look odd at all? Maybe a badly cut groove?

Nope, it looks completely normal to me. It could be a neck issue; the rod needs to be tightened.

I hope it's a simple fix, I really have not had a bass in my six years of playing that has been flawless for more than four or five months until now. This bass is solid, the is the first problem I have seen with it.

What I might do, is just take the new string off and put the old on back in to see if it does the same thing. The nut looks to be fine though.

Is the string on the peg correctly? The windings should be on top, over the part of the string that leads to the nut. The string should wind around the peg 3 to 4 times. This way, the string leading to the nut sits lower on the peg and exerts more pressure at the nut, keeping it in place better.

Yea, the strings are wound three times around each post. They initially felt much tighter than my original Fender stock set. I might bring the bass into the dealer for a quick look. He might be able to suggest something. I've only had the bass since the end of August with no trouble until now.

Hope things work out for you. Please post how things turn out at the dealer.
