so i inherited this "jazz bass" from my uncle who has passed away recently and it has thrown me for a loop, it's got the jazz neck and what seems to be an early precision body, im almost a complete nub with this and despite all my research im at a loss, so i'm reaching out for some help in identifying this, any help is greatly appreciated. the neckplate on the back is blank, if i can add any details feel free to ask and i'll do my best to answer.

Body seems to be J-Bass but no provisions for a bridge pickup can be clearly seen in your photo. There is an outline and what appears to be mounting hardware holes for a J-Bass bridge cover. If you could CAREFULLY remove the neck pickup cover and take another photo of that area, it might be helpful. We could also use the serial number from the headstock and closeup photos of the headstock decals on both sides as well as a closeup of the bridge area. The tug bar is in the proper position for a 1960's issue, but close up's and serial number will get us all in the right direction on this.

Thanks...

The neck at the nut appears to me to look like a P bass width. The whole bass looks a bit fishy. There is no limit to what people did to guitars back before the crazy guitar collector days. Geddy Lee chopped one into a teardrop shape. No one knew we'd go nuts in the early 80's on guitars.

of course when I talk about the old days---- this bass could just be something where someone took a neck and pieced a bass in around having an old Fender part. It could have been done anytime as far as I know.
