I've been looking all over for the black bass bridge II, everywhere I go to look is sold out and I'm wondering whats the deal with this? Are they not manufacturing these anymore or just out of stock temporarily? If anyone knows it'd be awesome to be filled in so I'm not wasting my time.

The deal is Leo/Greg Quan sells boxcars full of them as OEM to Fender and other makers. This makes a ton of money for them much faster than selling them a dozen at a time to places like Guitar Parts Resource, which by the way is out of stock on every Leo Quan bass bridge right now except the gold plated BA III's.

Their business model includes a state of the art two-step support system:
Step 1. You send emails to their support address.
Step 2. They ignore the emails.

I gave up emailing them years ago. I needed SPEC INFO. I needed a saddle wrench. I needed to know what SIZE the saddle wrench was. I needed replacement parts. Never one reply to kind, polite, patient pleas for help or to desperate groveling from a paying customer offering to pay them even MORE money. I will not buy another Leo Quan/Greg Quan product again if I can possibly avoid it.

There have been periodic BA Bridge shortages for years. These shortages happen and then Quan trickles out a few hundred to the parts dealers citing this reason or that reason for an unavoidable delay. These shortages keep the demand up, which props up the price on a product that any real major hardware company like Gotoh or Schaller could churn out by the millions. Brilliant marketing for sure!

I'm not mad or anything, but I am not stupid either. There are other decent bridges out there like the Hipshot A-Series, Schaller Chrome Roller or Babicz Full Contact bridges which are excellent if not superior alternatives. Even the Gotoh 201 is a decent high mass bridge and it costs half what a BA costs. Leo Quan is not the only game in town anymore. If you want to wait through Quan's periodic shortages to pay through the nose for a product that the maker won't support after the sale, feel free to wait it out. They'll trickle out a few eventually.

Thanks for the info Brother Dave,... I contacted Leo Quan in early November to inquire if I could purchase a saddle for a BADASS II as one of the saddles on my Steve Harris Precision bass had the corner taken off when a spot heater in my guitar room tipped over & hit my bass ... it also put a dent in the basses chrome pickguard........ I also contacted Fender for a replacement pickguard...........& as of todays date (Jan 5,2012) I've yet to hear from Leo Quan ........Fender replied in 48 hrs with a part number & retail price for the the chrome pickguard, they also suggested I order it from my local music store as they are a certified Fender Dealer, I have to say Fender's customer service has always been quick to reply & always helpful with regard to supplying part numbers & part availability.

The no Contact from Leo Quan is a bit of a turn off.....
Hey Dave I know your opinion of the standard Fender Bridges from another topic on this board & I argee with you as my Jaco bass has the old school bridge & it's an awesome sounding bass with the exception that my bridge pickup has stopped working (it's going into the shop next week.)
Anyway what do you think of the HMV Fender Bridges with the nickle plated brass saddles?? would it be safe to say Fender has created their version of the BADASS II ??
Just wondering :)

There are now replacement saddles for the II and III bridges. They are machined from brass and are a significant upgrade from the originals.

BA11 are over-rated anyway and with very poor consumer control- I say down with them. Just don't use them. I have one though. It still has the factory plastic on the package. I'll wait till they are about $2oo then I'll sell it. In fact I have a couple of them. I'm hoarding.

2 things I dislike about the Leo bridge...it says "BADAS" and you sometimes have to file the string slots yourself.

I need the Leo Quan for fretless bass..is the thing. No other bridge will allow for where I like to put the G saddle(due to the length of the railing). I also like the extra sustain it gives. You put one of them on a lightweight basswood or ash body..and you've got a reverberating monster of a fretless.

I totally agree Stroker Vance,...... Leo Quan has terrible & pretty much Non existent Customer service,.......... I even wrote about it ( as did Brother Dave) on many threads here at the Fender Forum,..but I have 3 Fender basses that came with a Badass II on them so it's nice to know that there may be an option out there with regard to replacing damaged saddles... :) Thanks again for the link poynt99

at the end of the day though,... with the Badass II on several artist model Fender basses,...I think Fender should be offering this bridge & it's replacement parts for purchase on it's accessories section..

You know James.... that is a very good and smart idea that Fender should consider. They should just let bass players run the company......well... maybe not. :D

Well not exactly let bass players run the company but ......please make it easy to obtain after market parts Like Leo Quan Bridges .... if they're gonna be sold on Fender Basses especially since we all know that these parts are not easy to come by in the last few years
even if you go to sites like All Parts or Warmoth .....Badass II Chrome bridges are sold out ..... that being said these days there are other better & cheaper Bridge options out there from Gotoh, Hipshot & Schaller. ......I also like the Fender HMV Bridge....... it came stock on 2 of my Jazz Basses :)

I used some BAll's on Fenders, and thought it was a decent bridge. I wouldn't go out of my way to get one though. I think the Fender High-Mass bridge is one of the better designed, and functioning bridges. The option of being able to string through the body, or string through up top is worth it.
