Then the work done with copper removes the noise to ground the deluxe american jazz bass at all?

I was thinking of buying one but between doubt and I love that bass

Good luck.

I returned my Deluxe Precision for the same reason. This shouldn't have been an issue, and it should have never left Corona with the issues imo. Still love Fender basses though ...just ordered a Select Jazz.

I have a 2011 American Jazz Deluxe that is noisy in active mode. I notice it when I stop playing and am not touching the strings. It is less noisy in passive mode. My American Precision doesn't make much noise. I love both basses and wouldn't consider getting rid of them but I would think that Fender would have found a fix for the noise by now.

Hi Rockbassist my 2011 American Deluxe Jazz 5 is also quiet in passive mode & somewhat noisy in active mode..(nothing terrible but there is a humin active mode) & yes you'd think Fender would address this as this is otherwise an amazing bass with one flaw...(the hum issue) :(

Add my name to the list of folks with noise issues from the "noiseless" pickups.

My issue is strange though. When I solo the neck pickup, the bass is quiet as a church mouse. Move it a hair off full neck pickup and the hum returns. This is polar opposite of what I've see with other single coil jazz basses. Typically if both pickups are full up, it's quiet as they essentially "cancel" the hum.

The bridge pickup is mine is where the hum is coming from. It's not a ground issue, as touching the strings make no difference, and if I turn 90 degrees to the source of the hum, it goes away.

I ordered some copper shielding tape form StewMac today and will be shielding the cavities. Hopefully this will solve the issue.

I am just stumped as to why only the bridge pickup hums. Anyone ever seen this??

Turning 90 degrees makes sense to me. That tells me that it's EMI I'm dealing with, but why only one pickup??

Shielded the heck out of the bass and there is no improvement. Guess I'll turn 90 degrees to the source of the EMI during quiet passages or between songs.

Still a mystery as to why it's only the bridge pickup that hums.

I find that if certain items in my house are on ...like the TV or my Computer I'll get more hum & here's an interesting thing, last summer when I only had my 2011 AM DLX JAZZ 5 for 2 months I noticed that when my neighbor across the street would use electric lawn tools including a mower the hum would increase & decrease in accordance to how the mower was being used??..........HMMMM??? I'm thinking it could be a combination of a lack of shielding in the bass & the way it's wired (or not properly grounded) & the wiring in my house..........I live in a 100 yr old house & I'm sure the wiring job & the wiring used are dated... :)

In my house it was the dim switch and fluorescent lighting in my living room.

Shielding must have helped more than I thought. Bass was dead quiet at church today. Band leader said, "Man, that bass sounds huge. Nice and round".

Hmmm...frustrating...hey now that I think about it , when ever electric tools are being used (mowers or trimmers) the picture on my TV will get a little snowy& a hum will come from the TV..

Hey Chad glad to hear your bass was quiet today in chuch,......I'd be curious to know if the hum returns when you get home......if so then maybe it could be the wiring in your home....just a though...& that being said the current model American Deluxes are getting a reputation for having hum issues .....& as for my other basses My Geddy Lee Jazz bass is dead quiet, however My Marcus Miller Jazz bass hums in active mode (same as my AM DLX Jazz when it's in active mode) :)

I think it's just the way things go with these basses. Every Ric I ever owned...years ago...was noisy as well. $30 Copper tape and an hour of your time shielding any bass should help. I just wish manufacturers would take care of this before shipping them out.

Played at a difference church campus Sunday and the hum was horrible. Even the sound engineer asked me about it. Apparently it was as audible in the house as it was my in-ears.

I emailed Fender customer support to ask what they can do for me. Until I hear from them, I'm gigging my Lakland. It's dead quiet, but I like the tone and feel of the Jazz better. Too bad I don't have any confidence in it right now. Just never know when it's going to hum like crazy.
