I have a Fender American Standard Jazz Bass. Yesterday the knob that controls the pickup selector popped off. The switch itself is still working properly; it's just the twist knob itself that came off and there doesn't seem to be any obvious way to reattach it. I'd like to attempt a home repair before bringing it in for service and I'm looking for advice. My first thought was to use glue but I'm worried about any excess glue getting to the switch itself and irreversably fusing it into one position.

Any advice or guidance would be very appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome.

NO GLUE!!!

There should be a set screw on the side of the knob. Tightening that screw will tighten the knob to the shaft of the control. If the screw is missing, you could try getting a replacement one under warranty, asking a local tech for a replacement one or simply buy a replacement knob.

Agree with Martian about NO GLUE. So far as I know there are three rotary controls on an American Standard Jazz which are: 1. Neck pickup volume. 2. Bridge pickup volume. 3. Master tone. So far as I know there is no pickup selector knob. Please explain why yours has a pickup selector knob? Thanks.

It probably is either a set screw that you can tighten with a jewelers screwdriver or a hex key. There are two different versions based on the year of manufacture.

All screws, including these set screws, should be checked and tightened every so often. Say at string changes as a minimum interval.

Even if under warranty you will not void warranty by tightening screws or knob set screws. Glue will however instantly void the warranty.
