I didn't look at the dates, i just took for granted that point of origin was first. I'm all excited for you, HEY, what was that? Sounded like a truck, do they make deliveries this late?

Oh, never mind, it was just the cat.

Yeah our housholds sound close to the same, except I am the buyer around here. But I usually buy things only when needed and occasionally I wil buy something that either I or her just want. So buying this bass is a rare occurance.
Now in my younger days, well that's a different story!

A truck.......!
No it's the cat...............!!!
Awwwww, come on man. You had me jumpin'!

Just checked Fedex.

They have it down as On Fedex Truck for Delivery - 7:32am! :D

It's coming out of Tulsa, so it will be a few hours before it gets here.

Awwww man!!!! You got me again! Now cut that out!!!!!
Now our front window has nose smudges all over it!

I've had to pack all my gear up. Got to get to sound check today as soon as possible. So I'm setting here with my acoustic bass going over all of the songs I sing plus some others that have a few parts that are a little tricky for me.

So I guess it will be at the sound check that I'll hear the bass for the first time.
Just sorta seems right, doesn't it.

Waited as long as I could, 1 pm, then I had to ask my daughter come over and wait on it while I went to our sound check. Just got back and still no bass. Fedex site says delivery by 7 pm (it's 6 pm here now) and that it's still out on a "Fedex Vehicle out for delivery", but I'm losing hope. Very disapointed. Fedex has always delivered here by 11 am, so I thought things would work out were I could use the new bass (if everything checked out on it) at sound check.

Alright guys. Here's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

I did call Fedex. After alot of explaining back and forth and at least 15 minutes on hold, I found out the new Fedex driver thought my address (it's a rual route) was a P.O. Box! :?: And he was on his way back to Tulsa with the bass! As I stated earlier they have delivered to my house on several occasions without any problems. They also told me that now it would be next week before they would deliver it. I guess they aren't delivering tomorrow because it's a holiday weekend.
Anyway, like any self respecting bass player I asked how late they were open and they told me til 10 pm. It was now 7 pm, so I hopped in my truck and headed out for Tulsa, a 2 hour drive which I was able to make in 1½ hours.
A little over 4 hours and a half a tank of gas later I made it back home with the bass.
I will wait 'til another day, after I have had the time to come up with forum appropiate language that can acurately express how I feel about Fedex right now.

The bass, WOW!!!!! This thing is beautiful. The pics below do not do it justice. The pics from Sweetwater that I posted on page 1 of this thread are more acurate, but even they don't do the bass justice.
Whats really sucks is, my wife is in bed and my rig is at the club where we did our sound check. I've got a an old rig here, but it's sound isn't very good and my wife wouldn't be too happy if I woke her up.
I did play it some unplugged and I have never heard an electric bass sound so good. Unplugged it sounds as good as it looks. Oh and it plays sooooooo nice. It felt like I had been playing this bass for years. I actually feel more comfortable playing this bass than my '92 Jazz.
I will go to the club in the morning just to get some playing time in.
Here are a few pics. I might post some tomorrow if they turn out better.

Alright! I'm sorry to hear of you problems with FedEx.My I'm surprised you haven't got a practice amp that has a headphone out. Wive's tend to get get worked up when they hear us playing at odd hours, oh yes, i know all about that.

I doubt we'll hear much from you for the next week or so, you'll be busy.

Congrats!

I probably should get some head phones. One of the reasons I bought my acoustic bass was to be able to practice while my wife is watching TV or when she's asleep.

I'm really not upset with Fedex, more upset with the situation. We received 3 or 4 shipments before Christmas without any problems, but last night they told me this driver was new and some of the addresses confuses the new drivers. I don't like what happened, but I can understand their side of it.

It all made for a long day yesterday, but the bass is well worth it. After I placed the order last Tuesday I picked up my '92 Jazz and while playing it I questioned if I did the right thing. The old bass looks almost new, plays great and has a very good sound. So I did wonder how these Custom Shop basses could be worth the price difference. After picking it up and playing it last night I no longer have any doubts. These basses are definitely in a league of their own. I'll be going down to the club here shortly and I can't wait to hear it plugged in. I have no doubt it will sound great.

Thanks for everyone's support, especially oxfan and brotherdave, and I hope this has at least provided you with some entertainment. Maybe it will even help those who maybe considering doing the same.

I think the best thing to do now, would be to send me the '92 jazz so there won't be ANY doubt as to your making the right decision :) . To really make you feel you're doing the right thing, FedEx has NEVER flubbed a delivery here.

That's just one of the many advantages of being a member of the Fender Forums, somene is always ready to offer a solution! :D

That neck is gorgeous. Obviously we know for sure where the best wood goes don't we? I've never seen a finer Fender 5 J-Bass.
