We have to be curious about why you started this thread then. Did you suddenly decide not to build?

No- I'm building the Jazz. It is going to be a bit different though. I'm using an 03 rosewood P bass neck on my all parts alder body. Dimarzio model J pickups and regular P/J bridge. It should be pretty sweet. Shell wht p guard too. I'm also modding my 03 P bass with a maple Jazz neck and vintage tuners and shell guard. Kind of a mix and match. It just turned out that way. The maple Jazz neck won't fit in the all parts body. It's a mitey mite. I don't want to shave that much wood off the neck or out of the pocket either.

The Mighty Mite neck has 20 frets, so it should fit normally on any standard P or J body without problems.

Perhaps you've purchased a plain 22-fret neck, that's why it doesn't fit.

Pics, please. :P

The MM fits in a Fender body okay with a little help but the MM neck is too big for the All Parts body I have. It's not the number of frets- it's the width of the widest part of the heel of the neck. The Fender neck fits in the All Parts body just fine. Nice and snug and no gap. Both necks are 20 frets. The Fender necks are fatter all round than the MM necks I've had.

this is installing vintage tuners on the MM neck so they lay flat against the back of the headstock. I had to drill relief holes for the tabs that are under the plate on the tuners

various pics of filling drilled holes with dowels and toothpicks (maple). Fixing someones bad drilling.

sanding the heel to fit in the P bass body

finished tuner mounting-- I use candle wax on every screw that goes into a new drilled hole.
Image

I put the cover down in the routes to make pilot holes for height adjustment screws. No drilling-- just screwed in the crews-- alder is soft enough inside the routes to do it that way.

This build is actually two basses. (Left) is an All Parts body , (Right) is a Fender body. P guards are white shell- slightly yellowed to have kind of a vintage look.

Are you wax potting your pickups or working by candlelight? What is with the candle?

I use candle wax on screws as a lubrication for putting them in new drilled holes in maple. I've broken tuner screws before. Once I started scraping just a little wax on the screws I've never had a problem. I use it on neck screws and others if the hole has never had a screw in it. I used to build alot of wood jigs etc. at my job and I would use the wax alot there also. I think it's a cabinet maker thing from way back.

In a final note-- The bass build and bass mod are done. The P bass is in the shop having a bone nut installed. I finished the Jazz today. Both basses sound very good to my ears. The big test will be when I use them at a gig.

Thank you sir.

I got the P bass back and it has the bone nut now. The guy at the shop did a great job. He tweaked and planed some frets and set up the bass to play with low action. He really knows his stuff. It sounds great as does the Jazz.

While at the shop a guy came in with a 78 Rick. Turns out he played for Alice Cooper and also Lita Ford. It was a nice music shop visit. Got to hear some nice things about Alice Cooper and picked up my P bass. A good day at the Rodeo.

Nice job/jobs Stoker. Seems you have enough parts for a few more!

I'm going to do a shielding/tone cap job and pickup swap on a P-Bass soon. Might photo that.
