I almost bought a Marcus Miller 5 & then decided on the American Deluxe Jazz 5 with a Natural finish......I can't tell you how much I love this bass, & I agree that uncontrollable noise would probably be a rarity (or in other words a bass made before the long weekend..)...... My Marus Miller 4 string is a very quiet bass & as I've said here in the past my AM DLX 5 had minor buzzing in active mode that seems to have been rectified since I bought An MXR M80 DI plus ..(My amp is an SWR Headlite with a SWR Amplite through an SWR Workingpro 4x10 Cabinet I also use a MXR Custom Shop '74 Phase 90, MXR Octaver, & will soon be adding an MXR Envolope Filter....overall my jazz basses aren't noisey..now that being said I used to have a Fender Bassman 150 Combo that I used to have buzz issues with..........All my basses were noisey except for a cheap Ibanez sound Gear Bass (that I just sold) So I don't know...... the Same basses are quiet with my SWR rig (also technically a Fender Product)

Hey kgerry Congrats on your Bass purchase.. whats Fenders the lead time (how long will it take until you recieve your bass)

> brotherdave, I opened her up, I guess I passed the point of "no return". :D
> kgerry, I learn my lesson, try then buy; no try then no buy. Good news is the noise is almost gone after I shield the cavities. :D
> hypersloth, I guess i will go to Japan some day with my current girlfriend and buy a hand made Japaneses Jazz Bass and have them fit Mr. John East in it. And my MIA JDV, I will make it noiseless some how some way. 8)
>James Coderre, Its a family tradition, my father took apart his first radio the minute he got it while he was 8, I am 24 now. Man like father like son or Asian saying, "Tiger father has no dog son" :)

I guess I must be the one of the lucky one to get a Friday Bass.
This is my first Fender and wont be the last. I love her even more after I got my hands on her internal, you know. My fingerprints are all over her  ....
Truth is, I did some research on the electronics, circuits and physics. My knowledge grew a little bit more, just this little bit makes me smile. :)

Now the noise is almost gone after I shield the cavities the night before my finals. I will shield the pickups to see if anything changes.

Thanks guys

I have a 2012 American deluxe jazz also and the bridge ground wire wasn't even attached. Just hanging loose in the hole!!! Talk about noise.

2014 Fender American Deluxe Jazz bass and American Deluxe Jazz Bass V
Problem:
1. The concentric pots are some material I don't understand - or - horribly cheap!
In the store, the first V I picked up had broken pots... ok, so I tried the 4 string in natural and absolutely fell in love with it.. so I purchased both the 4 and a new work V they brought out of the back room.
First Gig all went fine. Second Gig, I noticed when I turned the volume up full, the pot kept turning... I broke the V and the 4 string I could have, had I kept turning.
.. I returned the V string to Guitar Center and got a Used Warwick I had been checking out...
but I got such a good deal on the 4 string, I kept it and figured I can solder in a new pot.
shortly after. So I ended up replacing ALL the poor quality pots with ones which dial in rather than spin like fans.
2. Passive Active switch. - I first noticed, in the store, that it was not intuitive that off and on seemed reversed. After a few times playing thru my Aguilar amp which is a lot more powerful than the tiny Ampeg I used in the store, I noticed the active position caused a hum if the active treble control was half set to about the half way or higher mark.
3. Wiring and shielding - I found that half of the 4th concentric pot was half active and half passive electronics... and in the control cutout there was no shielding and while the care of shrink wrapping all soldered ends were taken, the quality of the wire was poor.

Result - I ended up replacing all 4 concentric pots with center de-tent high quality american hardware, I used copper tape to line the pot compartment. I replaced some of the wiring and used a high quality mini switch and reversed it so when the switch is UP, or facing me is the on position... the bass can be played without worrying about brute force.
Finale' - I'm in my 50's and own 100's of Fender guitars, bases and amps from vintage to new.. I'll have to inspect the new products with all the case I do on vintage .. or completely stop buying fender if they don't get it together on product they label as American. (p.s. The Mexican workers put more care into what they do, another sad statement)

Partial list of Fender owned products.
