I have had a Fender fretless MIM bass for about 6 months and I love it, it sounds and feels like butter, but between the 7th and 9th frets on the G string the notes are almost completly dead and it's driving me freaking crazy. Every other note on the bass sounds perfect except for these 3 notes. Any advise would be greatly appriciated. Thanks.

: :D check the neck. i have a mim jazz that i've used for about 3 years now. i use ghs nylon strings and find that the neck needs to be just about straight or else i will have dead spots. if you arn't comfortable adjusting a truss rod, have a luthier check the neck relief.

Hi:

I agree with the last 2 posts, Most likely it needs a neck adjust.

Here's how mine is set and it is fine, Capo near the nut press string at the last line on neck and go .030 at the 7th fret, works for my bass and it has medium low action

If it isn't your action, it may be inherent to the neck. Fenders often have dead spots. That's why there are many builders adding steel and graphite stiffening bars along the truss rod. Leo Fender moved the G string tuner on the Music Man basses to deal with this problem. Moving the tuner closer to the nut changed the tension on the string enough to help alleviate the problem. Not a helpful answer at all, just a bit of knowledge. On acoustic instruments (uprights especially) they have wolf tones as well. Deep crazy sounding notes way louder than other notes. Good luck.
