The bass in question.

Problem; Adjusting the pickup volume controls seems to have little effect until they are turned 75% open. I have the bridge pickup at 100% and the neck pickup at 75% for a lovely growl, but I don't seem to be able to get any variations of the growl. It's either there or it isn't. Would changing the control plate electrics(pots etc) from the mij ariginals to mia originals help, or should I be looking at changing pickups?

Yours,

Phil.

Possibly, yes. Typically, audio-taper pots are used as volume and tone controls but you might consider swapping them for linear-taper types. For Fender single-coil pickups the industry standard is 250K, manufactured by CTS. If you're otherwise happy with the sound of the pickups I'd leave them in situ and merely upgrade the controls. A new Switchcraft output jack wouldn't be a bad idea either.

Best of luck, HTH......that's really a gorgeous looking Jazz Bass!

I think I'll give the linear-taper pots a go to begin with and see how it changes things. Not too expensive and I can always revert back to the originals if I don't like what I hear. Thanks for the input guys.
The bass is much better than I am ;-)
