I've had trouble finding a picture from the black CS Jazz Bass with the tort guard.

I suppose this bass also sported the alchemical Amalgamation symbol in the pickguard.

Nonetheless this battered sunburst 72 Jazz served as a basis for the sunburst MIJ Artist Signature series introduced 3 years ago. :)

My bass isn't battered! :? It just has lots of Mojo from gentle use!!

Does Fender use the Geddy Lee neck on any other model Jazz ? Looks like it's the same one on the '70's Modified Squire Jazz.

From looking at the Spec's it looks like a couple of Squier Basses have the same neck spec's
as the Geddy Lee Bass notable the 60's vintage & 70's vintage Squier Jazz basses on Fenders website.

Yes , the specs seem to be the same for all Jazz necks, but, the Geddy Lee is designated as a " slim profile " neck. I don't see that term used for any other Jazz, yet the Squire looks exactly like the GL neck.

The neck on my Geddy bass is just well.........Awesome!! from first fret to twentieth fret, the neck on my Marcus Miller Jazz bass is equally as nice but the neck on the Geddy is slimmer, I'd have to say that the neck on my Jaco bass has a similar feel to my
Geddy Lee Bass....... & the I find the Neck on my 2011 American Deluxe Jazz 5 to be thin & extremely comfortable for a 5 sting bass & have often mused that if it was a four string it would be an almost identacle feel to the Geddy Lee Bass, the next time I visit my music store I think I'm going to pick up an American Deluxe 4 string & do a comparison just for my curiousity :)

Any plans for a 5-string version of the GL J-Bass?

Geddy also uses 5 and 6-string basses sometimes.

I've heard rumours he was dabbling with 5 string Wal basses in the late 1980's early /1990's around the time Presto was released, ...but I've never ever seen him use one live & I've been going to their concerts since 1978 (Farewell to Kings tour)

I did miss the Presto tour in 1990 though, but that being said if you're a fan of G & L basses, they've just released a new 5 string bass (that's reviewed in this months January 2012 BassPlayer magazine to rave reviews)

It's called the M2500, 5 - string bass & they're pretty sweet looking & well built, they also have active electronics (3 band EQ with dual Humbucking pickups) & no pick guard but they have not as of yet included a 5 string in their JB line.

Yeah I know very well these basses, they're by far the coolest instruments ever designed by the late Leo when he founded G&L with George Fullerton in 1979.

Perhaps the most famous is without doubt the ASAT Bass with that cool Tele-style body shape and double-coil Magnetic Field humbucking pickups.

Sorry for the inconvenience, but my question concerns Fender's plans for a five-string version of the Geddy Lee Jazz Bass.

Well........as I said in my last post, the neck on the Current American Deluxe Jazz Bass 5
is pretty much what a Geddy bass would feel like if it had 5 strings & the neck on the Marcus Miller Jazz 5 string unbelievably feels like you're playing a 4 string.

& with regard to G&L Basses I'm liking the new M2000 bass & might be checking one out....out of curiousity this friday.

Did you've already checked out the new Korina ASAT Bass? It's a limited special-edition run of 100 pieces featuring a 2-piece Korina body and quartersawn eastern maple neck with a Pao Ferro fretboard.

G&L designed the bass with a pair of their MFD humbuckers and the Tri-Tone active/passive preamp system, which includes three switches – a pickup selector, series/parallel toggle, and a preamp control toggle. According to the manufacturer, the combination of the Korina and the electronics “bridges the gap between the depth of mahogany and the focused midrange of Alder.”

Yes I read it in this month's BassPlayer magazine, they reviewed the new M2000 4 string,
M2500 5 string & the ASAT Korina bass, I then went to G&L's website & checked out the specs on these basses...they look solid & well thought out & when you order a bass you get to pick the body color & neck type......(thats the way it should be when dropping your hard earned cash on a Bass.)
