Hi!

I am going to buy a standard jazz bass in a very good price but i have doubts whether it is authentic or a fake one.the serial number is E091639 which means that it was manufactured between 1979 and 1981 in the U S.the problem is there is no sign of originality in the words fender or jazz bass(i mean the letter R inside the circle).furthermore the serial number seems to be a little blury as if someone tried to scratch it.also the tuners have no indication of the fender logo.i play the bass for many years but i know nothing about evaluating the authenticity of a jazz bass so i would appreciate to give me some hints concerning this matter.i have no photos of the bass sorry... :(

Hi Larry, I don't believe anyone here can validate something without actually seeing it. You'll need to post photos, or link to photos.

You are absolutely right brother dave but it is rather difficult to take some photos of the bass since it is on a store and i cannot request to take some photos to validate its authenticity.all i ask is some hints to look on the bass in order to make a conclusion on my own.for example if it is crucial to have the symbol of originality on the label fender (the R within a circle as i said before) or some details about the tuners or about the truss rod or the bridge etc.every advice is welcome!thank you in advance!!

If you are thinking of buying it why can't you take some pics? If you are that concerned to post the question here wouldn't it be easier to just take some pics and settle the question quickly.

there should be no prob taking pics at a store-- unless there is something to hide about the bass. I know a store owner who does not know every facet of Fender basses. He may tell you it is such and such and it isn't. This has happened to me alot with that guy. He's a great guy but I just don't want to argue the point with him, I know what it is so that's all that matters. He can have is opinions-- everyone has one- right? --even if it's wrong. No biggy. So there should be an oportunity for pics-- unless the guy has some ego hang up and doesn't want to sell a bass and make the dough!!
