New to the lounge and looks like a cool place to hang out...

Love my Marcus Miller Jazz neck but thinking I might like to put it on a standard (passive) jazz body. Does anyone know if the neck pockets are the same size? I do know I'll have to do a little modification to the standard neck pocket to accept the MM three bolt neck with micro tilt.

Pictures/thoughts?

Thanks!

The Standard Jazz Bass body is primarily designed to accept 4-bolt necks. Subsequently 3-bolt necks may require a few alterations in order to fit into a standard Jazz Bass body.

Since both basses feature a 20-fret neck, the MM neck can be easily installed into a MIM Standard Jazz body.

Just drill two extra holes into the MM neck and you're done.

Hmmm. I was thinking of doing the drilling/modification on the body side and leaving the neck intact. I'm hoping the two holes at the head stock end of the heel will line up with the existing and corresponding holes on the body. I'd then have to drill the body for the 3rd neck screw found at the bottom of the heel and do whatever else needed to make the micro tilt work. However, having not done anything like this before...

Any additional thoughts? Thanks!

You should drill the 2 holes on the neck otherwise it doesn't fit - unless you drill the body for the third hole and use the CBS oval neckplate which comes stock with your MM Jazz.

This method would not alter the value of my MM neck whereas I'm not as concerned with the body. I've decided to use an older Highway 1 body I have for the project...

Jah I would drill away. If you have a spare body why not? The micro tilt isn't worth using anyway...I have an original 1977 and the pearl blocks are all cracked from the allan screw pushing up. I
