I am looking for a new bass and I'm interested in getting one of these Custom Classic basses. From what I have read they are discontinued but basscentral.com still has a few available. I have been searching the internet for reviews but I cant find anything on these basses ... does anyone here have any experiences with these ?? how do they compare with the American Deluxe ?? ....Ive never owned a fender but I like the fact that these are US made and at the custom shop ...but it feels like everywhere I go even people who sell Fenders are trying to sell me a sadowsky.

Any feedback on these line of basses would be greatly appreciated Guys !

Thanks !

You might try posting the same thing in the Custom Shop forum. Custom Shop vs. Sadowsky is an interesting comparison. Sadowsky makes instruments based on vintage Fender basses. The Fender Custom Shop makes actual Fender recreations of vintage Fender basses. Maybe someone could do a shoot-out at a bass magazine? That would be some very interesting reading! Be sure to check out the resale value percentage of each too.

As the happy owner of a AmDlx Jazz, I've understood why someone would pay hundreds of dollars more for a Custom Classic. Maybe you've got your heart set on a particular color, etc. but is that really worth hundreds of dollars? You could get it painted yourself for less than that. The only feature of the Custom Classics I like is the Pao Ferro neck, which is what the AmDlx had until last year (and I assume Fender changed that to keep prices down, in the same vein that I assume the necks went from 21 frets to 20 so that they could use the same templates as the American Standard).

Although I am a bona fide Jazz Bass lover, truthfully if you want an American made custom bass that sounds (and looks) like a Fender there are less expensive options out there. You could get parts from Warmoth and build your own, or you could get the excellent Carvin SB5000 which you can get for way under 2 grand with options that Fender players can only dream about.

Nice features pasted from the Fender website...

"New N3 Noiseless Pickups, Improved electronics resulting in increased headroom, tighter low-end response, Active/passive toggle switch, Passive tone control for passive mode, Strong Arm™ string retainer, HMV bridge, Genuine bone nut, Tinted neck, Posiflex™ Graphite Neck Support Rods, 5-Bolt Neck Plate, Contoured Heel for Easier Access to Upper Frets, Rolled Fingerboard Edges, Highly Detailed Nut and Fret Work, Flat head screws on battery compartment (for easy changes with a coin or pick), Black pearl (or white pearloid) block inlays, Neck binding"

Many of the "Custom Shop" features has trickled down to this really cool MIA Deluxe Jazz Bass. The italicized quotes are unique to the new American Deluxe Fender Jazz Bass V. The top woods, hardware, & electronics for less than 1/2 in $ is a win/win situation.

I have a 2005 Custom Classic Jazz 5 string and a 2010 American Deluxe Jazz 5 string. They both absolutely kill! The American Deluxe has a different neck radius, much flatter profile, than the Custom Classic, which to me feels more round and thicker front to back. The pickups are a bit different, as well. With the Pre set flat on both basses, the Custom Classic has a more round, more bassy sound and the American Deluxe, a bit thinner sounding, more high-mid present. Both preamps allow for much tonal flexability. Both basses play and sound great! Different versions of the same animal. For the $, the American Deluxe is a great deal. If you got money to burn, the Custom Classic is a wonderful instrument. Good luck with your choice.
