Why does the 50th anniversary Jazz bass have block inlay on the fretboard?

Pretty much what Glen said, the block in lay adds cost and it's a historic look that Fender popularized. I luv that block in lays, weather the black or pearloid, it makes it look classier.

+1000!

I like them best when paired with the bound fretboard......

Thats what I'M talking bout !! Thats the epitomy of a Fender Jazzbass, thats what I see when I think of a Vintage Fender Jazz. :D
I have the same bass but sniff..sniff.. WITHOUT  The binding and blocks,What a difference it makes on the Jazzbass(no offense to those without it,myself included :| )
I was blown away when I saw the Geddy Lee Jazzbass has laminated blocks and not the ones that are in-layed like the original ones which are fitted then glued into the routes the fretboard(opposed to glued on and sprayed over with finish)are they still doing this I wonder ? I was disappointed when I realized this and now I dont feel so bad about getting rid of it(bad-neck otherwise great bass)

Thanks, LSB!

I modeled the bass after a '66 edition and gave it to my brother as a birthday gift. The "chocolate tuxedo" neck was from Allparts, everything else is genuine Fender.

The 50th anniversary pays tribute to the jazz bass over important changes through it's history.

Eg the block inlays (an option in the late 60s) & the pickup placement closer to the bridge (from the 70s).

Though I've never seen one in the flesh they look like stunning basses & go damn fast when they pop up for sale used. I bought a USA Standard jazz in 2009, I would have waited for this if I had been aware of it. :(

Gee Eric, I always had you pegged as a "blue" guy who'd prolly take a shine to this one......

I built this duplicate in LPB for myself after delivering the 3TSB version.
