Check this out:

Looks and sounds like the real deal, but I can not find any official source on the E9+4digit serial. I have seen a handful other threads asking this about other longhorn J-basses (late 80's early 90's), so I truly doubt that these are faked longhorns.

Can anyone shed some light on this mystic serial?

E means made in the 80,s and the next number is a 9,add them up and it makes it an 1989,US made Fenders is much better with correct sequence serial numbers(at one time was not to good)Fender Japan does their own thing with serial numbers but its still possible to get within a year or two estimate when it was made with certain parts they change or up-grade and even the decals appearence is a good clue because they change its look(colors, size, script etc..)can give a good estimet and I almost forgot the "longhorn' was short lived and was only made for a couple of years another sign of its age.

Oi, just realized the link in the OP didn't work! Fixed it - so check it out now :)

What confuses me, is that nowhere in serial no/dating guides I can find anything about E9+4 digits. Only E9+5 digits.

Thanks for the reply :)

Could have been an export instrument. Sometimes they changed up serial formats on export instruments to differentiate them from domestic models at the service centers on a warranty claim. Not saying that is the case, but I have seen serials that don't fit the stated format before and if you track the lineage they came from offshore or were provided to someone outside the normal retail channel, such as an endorsing artist who would not have to deal with a service center anyway.
