I have the Fender round-wound nickel plated steels on my J-bass right now. Not sure what the set designation is.

i use Fender flats 50-100...and here's a tip...try not to change gauge and string manufacture too often on your jazz,i did this and had to have the neck re-heat treated and straightened, poor thing saw more strings than a phillharmonic orchestra.

I currently own a 2011 American Jazz Deluxe, 2008 American Precision Standard, 1976 Precision, 1978 Jazz and 1996 Alembic Epic. I use DR Marcus Miller Fat Beams on all of them. I play rock, blues, jazz and country.

I also have an endorsement deal with Curt Mangan strings and recently tried his nickel round wounds. I paid less than $40 for 3 sets. The quality is great but they do not cut through as much as the DRs. I'm sure its because the DRs are stainless and the Mangans are nickel. I am going to try Stainless Mangans and see how much of a difference there is.

For years I used GHS Boomers 5M-DYB - 45-130 - Medium Long Scale. I liked the sound and feel. Seemed to last as long as most.

Fender 82505M - .045, .065, .085, .110tw, .130tw Taperwound - Medium Long Scale came on my FCS. I replaced them with the GHS Boomers within a couple of weeks. I left the GHS on for a couple of months, then replaced them with new Fenders.

This bass just sounds better with the Fenders and I like the feel just as well as the GHS.

I wonder if there is any way to make your bass sound bad. I doubt it.

I think your right. I bet you never heard any "squeak" noises on those clips I posted. And as you probably noticed, I play using the "slide and find" technique!

But if there is a way for it to sound bad, I'm sure I'll find it.

Allow me an observation. I've found that truly talented musicians are humble about their abilities. Now, ther are those who are wild and crazy, but take their music seriously.

The "slide" method was, and is, still used by the majority of players. I can say with certainty that John Entwistle was a bass guitarist who used it a lot.

That "nice lady" that allows me to live here has no problem keeping me humble!

Last year on our 32nd anniversary I told her I don't get enough credit.
As ornery as I am, being able to keep a good woman like her around all these years.......well I just don't get enough credit!

Obviously, "Nice Lady" doesn't read your posts or you'd have mentioned that slap on the back of your head.

I'll give you the credit for your longevity and long suffering. We all deserve a medal of some sort. :D

After the first 10 or 15 years of marrage, I finally learned not to open my mouth when she's holding something in her hand!
Just wanted to pass on some marital advice to the newly wed members of this forum.

Nope, she don't know about this forum. If/when she does, I'll let you know how it turns out after I get healed up.

Some things are better left unsaid. Let the newbies gain all the wisdom in the conventional way, like we did. The scars add character.

Being from Oklahoma, there's no telling what shat may have had in her hand, sure hope it wasn't an Armadillo!

No armadillo or any other critter. She's respectful to the local wildlife and wouldn't do anything that might bring them harm.

I also learned not to say anything while she's in the kitchen. She usually won't grab anything sharp, but it does get expensive having to replace the dented up fryin' pans.

OOPS! I just gave away another marital wisdom to the newbies.

She does like the new bass and the guys in the band. She enjoys listening to us. Gotta love a woman like that. Makes it all worth it.

I appologize to russ12. Looks like we've hijacked his thread.

Nice Lady does like the Fender strings.

Does that make it alright?
