Hi there,

I am in the market for a 70s jazz & have found a late 70s example being sold through a shop that is apparently all original. Applying the knowledge I've gained through research etc the bass does check out.

The only thing however is the sunburst finish which I'm worried about may be a refin. This is because the neck pocket doesn't look quite right to me. There appears to be no unpainted spot where the paint stick would have been & it looks like paint has dripped down in to the pocket & pooled. Also it's missing markings I've seen on other examples, such as the block letter in a circle & more importantly the serial number.

Heres a link to the photo of the neck pocket.

So does this look a bit dodgy? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I don't see anything wrong with the neck pocket.....

Hi basscleff. I can't spot the rectangle left by the paint stick, nor a serial number which I've seen on other late 70's Fenders in the neck pocket?

Hum, looking at it again you maybe right. I did find this photo of a mid 70's jazz bass neck pocket.

And this is the neck pocket of my 72 Jazz

What does the rest of the bass look like.....
