Hi, I'm interested in putting new knobs on my Fender MIM Standard jazz (made in 2011). I'd like to put some non regular knobs like strat knobs and I wonder which ones are compatible to mount on my bass (exept jazz stlye knobs 'cause they are already on it).
Big thanx!

It should fit. Go to your local music store and try it out. I have EMG posts on mine so I had to buy a bigger (hole) size knobs on all my basses. Not a biggie tho :)

I think you have push on knobs and split shaft pots on your MIM. If there is no set screw on the shaft of the knobs then they should just pull off. You might have to insert a wire like a guitar "B" string under the knob next to the shaft to pop it off. They usually fit pretty tight.

The Strat knobs will fit on split shaft pots. The just push on. There are some pretty cool looking black Strat knobs.

It should be noted that Strat type knobs were used on the early MIM basses including the Blacklabel series. So your bass will look more "retro" MIM. Another option would be Tele knobs. That might look more custom. I also like the feel of the Tele knobs better than J or Strat type knobs. The J-knobs' advantage is that you can tell by a glance at the landmark white line where the pot is set. That is a definite advantage.

The current knobs have that screw (allen type I belive) on the side. So you say that there won't be any problems with mounting those "push on" strat type knobs, right?

If your current knobs use a set-screw that means your bass is equipped with solid-shaft pots. Stratocaster knobs are intended to be used with fluted-shaft pots.

Like Retro said, if you have a set screw then you probably have solid shaft pots. Take a knob off and verify.

If you have solid pot shafts then you'll have to replace the solid shaft pots with split shaft pots in order to use Strat knobs.

I would again consider either Tele knobs, or leaving it as is.

It's possible there are some aftermarket Strat-type knobs intended for solid-shaft pots -- that option might be preferable to replacing everything beneath the control plate.

Fender doesn't make a Strat knob with a set screw that I can find. WD sells a generic solid brass black Strat type knob with a set screw that works on split or solid shaft pots but costs $9 each plus shipping. They don't have numbers on them nor are they labeled VOL or TONE. http://www.wdmusic.com/brass_strat_knob_black.html

I wouldn't use them, but that might be just what he's looking for though.

+1

Without the 1-10 increments on the skirt and the "VOLUME" or "TONE" on the dome, they seem rather pointless. Mebbe some black-chrome Tele knobs would work......?

I found some Fender amp knobs for solid shaft pots that will fit, black with silver top and numbers like on strat knobs. That is what I'll put on my bass (think that it'll look good). Will upload some pics when it's done. Thanx again for your help guys.
