Hey, everyone, need some help. Back in '93, I bought a Fender 60's Reissue Jazz bass (Made in Japan). Sunburst with a white pickguard. I took the pg off (white? really?), and played it au naturel for years. Since then, of course, I've moved three times, gotten married, had kids, and (of course) lost the original pickguard.

These days, I'm playing more with a pick, and I want to dress it up, so I was planning on adding a B/W/B pickguard (the original is long gone, anyway). But I'm not sure *which* guard to get.

I've sent e-mails to the various aftermarket pickguard retailers (Pickguard Heaven, Warmoth), but no response. I've tried the limited selection (*two!) or Fender replacement guards at the local retailer (GC), but none are a match.

I don't want to go through the hassle of ordering a bunch of guards to try to find one that fits - and deal with returning, etc. Since I don't have the original guard, ordering a custom guard blind/without a tracing doesn't seem smart.

Any suggestions? Or any info on what guard will fit?

Thanks in advance!

I have one of those white 3-ply 11-screw pickguards.

What I don't have is the MIJ Jazz Bass that it fits.

(get it?)

Hm....

Although, I'm actually looking to go with Black/White/Black - I like how black looks against the sunburst.

I replaced a white Squire pg with a black Fender pg. The shop I use had to do some cutting and filing but it fits fine. Just find someone reputable to do the work.

Scour ebay or go to the awesome allparts website (I could seriously stay on there all day).

Your best shot here is to find someone with the exact same model instrument and convince them to send you a tracing then get a custom one made from the tracing. I'd say that is the only way to get a good fit.

Another option is to BUY another bass with a guard, send the guard instead of a tracing. With a guard to copy those CNC machines are AMAZING. You'll get an exact duplicate in your choice of materials. Keep the one that plays and sounds best and resell the other one, maybe for a profit!
