First post guys, so go easy on me.

I own 3 Fender Jazz basses. A 4 string fretted, 4 string fretless and a 5 string fretted. I have searched high and low to even get an answer as to whether Fender makes a 5 string fretless. I know they make a 4, because I own one. I also know they make a 6 string fretless.

Outside of the custom shop, does anyone know if I have just missed them, or do they even make one? If not, I wonder why?

Thanks in advance.

Fender never produced a 5-string fretless bass, either it's a Standard, Deluxe, MIM or MIA.

I've seen a couple of fretless 5-string American Deluxe Jazzes (such as this black 50th Anniversary model of 1996 - not mine) while surfing on the internet, but these basses had their frets pulled out.

Actually since Steve Bailey moved over to Warwick Fender doesn't make any six strings any more. I ordered mine just in time.

If you have a bass you like, take the plunge and have the frets yanked. You should be able to get it done properly for a couple of hundred, or if you're brave check out youtube. Here's a link to a guy who worked on mine. http://youtu.be/115gvPzHMqw I think it explains the process fairly well.
