I have owned Gibsons and Squiers but not a Fender. My original bass teacher in the mid 70's owned a 60's Jazz Bass. It was impressive and I remember it being a joy to play (I owned a Gibson EB3 at the time). For my 50th birthday I ordered myself the 60's Jazz Bass (I thinks it's MIM) and really look forward to getting it. It feels good to finally belong to the Fender fraternity, after all these years.

Thank you so much for the welcome!

Unfortunately I got suckered into some bad deals and ended up without a quality bass for too long. I'm hoping this will help make up for lost quality and can't wait to get it.

The Gibsons were good, although somewhat undersized. Nice tone but a little light on the bottom end. I realize the Jazz Bass isn't oversized but remember it being more substantial. Only time will tell.

Thanks again SL!

'ello Mate- welcome. :D Let me know if there's anything you need-- I can get a Dioscilator if you need one. Maybe some Colonel Jakes Foot Spray?

If you want to check out the Dioscilator- I hope you like chicken jokes.

BTW guys- I went to the lake in Sweden and recovered the D. Don't tell anyone.
Okay there's this chicken and...............................................

Welcome aboard Kreskin!...

Congratulations on your new acquisition!

I've been a Fender man since the age of 16....
That would be 31 years now... :)
(Although my first Fender was a 79 Musicman Sabre... Genuine Leo Fender!)

I hope you hung on to at least one of your Gibby basses....
I've never played one, but if they're good enough for Jack Bruce,
I like to try one some day....

But yes, Fender basses rule!

a Grabber is a good one and so is that other one from the 70's that was shaped a bit like a firebird ( not a thunderbird the othe cool one. ) I'd like to have both of those. Can you find us one?

I hope you enjoy the 60's Classic J/Bass,I bought one a few yrs back and I really liked it for its build Quality and finish,I was finally on my way to putting my demons of Mexican basses away and then out of nowhere it happened again  and this time will be the last
I was so impressed with the fit and finish that I overlooked the realy important stuff and that being the neck,I gave it some TLC and waited about a month to give it time to adjust to the enviroment and settle in,but sorry to say it never did and I had to make a choice either to fix it(a long complicated process costing more than a NEW neck would)or return it(or sell it..?).
Sadly I was'nt yet advanced enuff in my studies to do the needed repairs(removing the last 8-10 frets, leveling the f/board; then refretting it)or paying someone to do it(even at a reduced rate)was'nt worth it,it was almost the same price to go out and get a new one.
So I traded some spare parts and ton of accessories for a Japanese made neck,I then re-sold the "crappy neck" to a luthier and the MIM 60's classic w/new Japanese neck fetched a small fortune on E-Bay,still I would rather of had my original 60's classic Jazzbass,It looked so good with the vintage tuners and its 60's designed decals w/tort pickgaurd,I'm tempted to put the original style Jazzbass decals on my 05 American Standard j-bass w/3 tone s/burst finish and rosewood f/board,it dont leave the house but heck,I DESERVE IT!!

welcome from my side, step in to the madness-infiltrated club of any brand using bassists; using gibson's is not completely wrong but not very good tough, ok, if you like shorties they do the thing, for the rest, gibson never achieved to make really good basses... and only god knows why!
and yes, the NICP-sig guarantees the full service: bass-knowledge, fun and continuous derailing... pleased to meet you!

I seem to have a lot of buzz when plucking open strings D and G, but I notice there isn't any if I strum it in any other way. I've tried adjusting the bridge all over the map. Is this the nature of the stock set of strings, or simply the nature of this model? Anyone know what gauge of strings is included? Perhaps a heavier gauge needed??

If I could get past the buzz I'd really enjoy this instrument.
