Actor Gary Sinise has a second career... the band that he started a few years ago with a colleague and friend Kimo Williams, has been doing USO type shows all over the US at military bases and other patriotic venues. Never seen his band in person, but it looks like Mr Sinise plays a Fender J-Bass as well as alternating with something that resembles an Ibanez Prestige SR5000E. Anyone know for certain which Ibanez he uses occasionally?

Thanks...

I haven't seen Gary with a J-Bass (yet) but his use of the Ibanez seems to be well documented.

I can't find anything on him playing Ibanez or Jazz Basses. He may in fact be playing Ibanez and Fender Jazz Basses now, but I went looking for a photo timeline to see for sure what axes he's been photographed with and when.

In 2004 he was playing a Sunburst P-Bass Deluxe mostly:

And he was also photographed with a standard P-Bass also in 2004:

Then in 2005 he got a black colored Cort, you can tell by the notch in the headstock corner:

In 2006 he acquired an amber tinted natural Cort A4:

He was seen with both the black and amber Cort A4's in 2006.

In 2007 the two Corts were used and then he added a Line 6 Variax which he played extensively for a couple of years as he began to favor it:

In 2008 in addition to the Variax he got a new two-tone Cort Artisan A4 Custom Z which he is still playing at the latest shows of the Lt. Dan Band but the Variax seemed to get used more:

In 2009 he was photographed mostly with the Variax.
In 2010 and 2011 he has seemed to favor the two tone Cort A4 Artisan Custom Z and the Variax wasn't seen after 2009.

The Cort Artisan A4's look a lot like an Ibanez, because Cort built Ibanez's top end basses as a contractor for Ibanez for a long time.

The Variax can't be mistaken for anything else because it has no visible pickup.

Thanks for the great history and info. We will be seeing one of his concerts at the Experimental Aircraft Association Convention in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, on Friday evening, July 29. Looking forward to the performance.

Thanks again for the info and thanks to Gary Sinise for his dedication to Veterans and active duty military in the US and abroad. The Lt. Dan Band was named after the character he played in the Tom Hanks movie - Forrest Gump"... and all we can say is...

"Lieutenant Dan....Ice Cream...."

"That's all I have to say about that............"

I was just looking over on Youtube for the clip. But I remember seeing an episode of CSY NY where a bass was used as a murder weapon. At the closing of the show it had Sinise in a bar playing bass in a band. I'm not sure if it was him on the soundtrack but by looking at his fingers especially on his left had I could tell he was playing. As someone who took lessons if you look at his left hand he does have really good technique.
